I think as young as you are it is an excellent trait looking into the future of you business it is very admirable.

First you would want to license your business locally, and contact your local government about tax laws. You would also want to let you customers know they are not copies but an original work so you can charge more for them, and make sure you file copyrights with you local government so no one can copy your works. Any other works you sell you want to do the same for, and have an attorney draw up a contract for you to offer to other people who you sell there works either giving you exclusive rights to them if your going to but them, or allowing you to sell them for a percentage of the selling fee plus any additional fees for displaying the work and any copyright fees incurred by you. Just a suggestion I hope this helps.

'You will be better renting a property at first rather than buying in case it doesn't work out. the inland revenue help small business's in the first year, your tax bill will be very low or even nothing depending on what you have had to buy for the business. Go for it you are only young once . Good Luck!

Hi, i live in the uk and started my own business when i was 24 (and a single parent).
I can tell you now that it is very hard work, not only in terms of having to put lots of time and effort in - but you are the one who has to make all the decisions and take all the responsibility.
But don't let that put you off - having your own business gives you more flexibility and you are your own boss, it can give you financial freedom, and you can use your creativity to your advantage without having anyone limiting your ideas!
You should keep a diary/book with all your ideas in and regularly brainstorm from them.
As you are young the best place to start looking for advice is shell live wire and princes trust.
I've put the links below for them along with a few others you should check out - if you're not ready now to act on them just bookmark them for the future

Get a job in a shop first and learn everything you can about retail, at the same time learn about internet retail and start selling online.

Retail is very difficult to make profitable especially if you dont know a great deal about business. The overheads are simply massive.

Selling online is a godsend but still a tough callenge!

Kaf,

Depending on how young you are - look at The Princes Trust. If you are too old to qualify for their help, contact your local Business Link or Enterprise Agency. You can get access to advise free as a pre-start up business. They also run courses like Generating Ideas for your Business, Business Planning, Market Research, Presenting, etc.

Good Luck!

Hello,

(ANS) I've set up & run two small business's so Yes! I'm talking here from personal experience.

First of all, one of the best pieces of advise I can offer you at this stage is to go along & visit and talk to your local branch (office) of "Business Link" they are excellent in helping people start up small business's. They can offer you free impartial advise, not only this they can guide and mentor you along until to business is up and running.

**Business link can be found in the yellow pages or local phone book, see chamber of commerce or look under business link. They will probably have a website too usually.

**The best bit about business link is they can help you think through your ideas for starting up and help you too see whats realistic and whats definitely NOT going to work.

**They can help you with setting up a limited company if you choose to go down that route.

**They can advise you on financial planning, on how you can market your services & products, to get the business known & seen, etc.

**They can advise you about any tax or benefit implications and so on.

I highly recommend business link to you, they were brilliant help & support when I was starting up my computer services company.

Good Luck! hope this helps?

Best Regards Ivan

I would contact a business consultant. Tony Bright in Cleveland, Tn is a good place to start. He is very honest and won't stir you wrong.
