Should I receive a thankyou for giving a $100 dollar bonus for employees?
I own a small insurance business and gave my 2 employees of 1 year and the other 3 months a $100 christmas bonus. Neither of them said thankyou. Am I wrong to expect that? It seems ungrateful. I also took them and their spouses and children to an upscale restaurant with favors. And a prechristmas luncheon shopping trip with $100. I feel very unappreciated! I feel like not doing anything or something very small next year if its not appreciated. Please advise.

I agree that it is rude of your employees to not say thank you for a kind and generous gift. However, you need to take some personal responsibility for having hired them. You need to reconsider your screening process. This kind of rudeness and poor attitde must be damaging the releationship with your customers. Don't overreact, but analyize and build a plan to deal with this over the next couple of months.

no no....I'm sure you will get a thank you note or something....or they are just plain redneck stupid...don't ruin it for the rest of us hard working class....i can't believe they are that stupid..;...Just feel good that you did that...you could afford it...and remember its the thought that counts....

Yah they could have said it but you shouldn't expect them to say thank you. Were you only giving it to them to gratitude back?

I feel you are right to expect a thank you.

Yes they should have said thank you! could i come work for u ? cause u really didn't have to give anything!!! so don't be so nice next year...

The Man
A thank you is in order. However, the thank you is becoming a lost art. Does your insurance company send out thank you's to your customers?

By the Way I'm sure the dinner and money is appreciated. I wish I worked for you, I'd say thank you.

Most of the time they wouldn't send a written thanks, but would at least say thank you. Strange people.....

Of course you should get a thank you! How wonderful of you to do this for them.

Keep in mind that you did a kind thing for them and feel good about it. I am sure they enjoyed the bonuses, shopping and lunch but lacked the manners to express their thanks. But you may be right to not repeat it next year for that very reason.

However, next year will probably be when you get the appreciation you deserve as they all realize they didn't get what they got last year. And they will miss it and wonder why they didn't get it.

Anyway, bottom line is, you are a great boss. Good for you for being so kind to your employees. God bless you and have a wonderful Christmas.

Well, a thank-you would have been only good manners, but I wouldn't say you should *expect* it. A kind and generous act is its own reward. Besides, your $300+lunch will make your staff happier, so they'll do better work for you in the coming year.
Merry Christmas!

Is it the appreciation you most want or is it knowing that you are generous? Are your employees well paid? Are their working conditions good? Could they possibly feel the may have deserved everything you gave them? These are just questions asked to help you focus in on the situation. My feeling is that if what you expect for your generosity is being stoked so that you feel warm and purry, then it wasn't true generosity. If you gave with the simple idea in mind of showing your appreciation for your employees, then you've done that and should accept that they may not see it as being a very generous gesture from you. If you don't repeat it next year because you didn't get stroked this year for being generous, how will you feel about yourself then? And wouldn't that prove that you really only wanted the stroking to stoke up your ego? I'm not saying that is the case, but think about the various possibilities implied by the entire situation.

When my wife and I give something, no matter what it is, we let go of it. I never expect thanks. I do what I do because I want to and expect nothing in return, including words of thanks.

Good luck next time.

Do you thank your employees every time you hop into your Mercedes? How much of the bonus is actually coming out of your pocket and isn't a business expense?
Aren't you giving the bonus as a thank-you? You want them to thank-you for thanking them? 3 months service is the same as 1 years' service to you? If it were a huge company ,would each of the thousands of employees thank the president for the bonus?
As you can see a creative mind can come up with a plethora of excuses for not being gracious in this situation. Don't take it personally.

Absolutely! They should have thanked you with a note, email or a verbal thank you. You should speak to them about it.

lola
They're greedy. Never give them anything again.
