indrep33 | Should I start this business? |
Today a guy came to clean my carpet and he cleaned it good in just like 20 minutes( only one room of carpet) Anyway, he tried to sell me the machine for like $55/month. I didn't want it at first because I only stay in a studio apt and my bills are already kinda tight. But then I got to thinking that I could charge people like $15-25 to clean their carpets, so even if I only get like 3 or 4 clients a month, I'll make a profit. The thing is there's no guarantee that I'll get clients. My mom said she'll give me $25/month on the bill(which is half), and in return I told her she can use it for her house(which has all carpet and 6 kids),and even to make $ for herself if she wants, and my sister will take over half of a bill I'm now paying on my wireless internet because she uses it more than me, so that will also be money i can use to pay the $55 bill for the cleaner. It also details cars and furniture. You guys think I could get a lot of clients that need carpet, car, and furniture cleaned? Additional Details Oh, and it also gets dust mite/allergens off beds and cleans hard floors, and ceiling fans and blinds. |

If you are offering a service I would look into getting insurance if a client turned round and said you ruined their 10 year old carpet and tried to sue you for a brand new one you could be in trouble
Apart from that it sounds like a good plan. |

I think this is a great idea to make extra money or to start as a biz. make up some door hangers and and put them around your neighborhood. Offer a special to get started like a free room cleaning or car cleaning. Something small but where they feel they're getting alot for what they are paying for. Offer a free cleaning for referrals that pay for your service. Good look. |

Sounds good because you have your families support.
But consider too that you might need a car to carry the machine around.
You would need to raise some money for advertising. Make some leaflets and hand them out at local supermarkets, shops, and in the local newspaper. You also might need some small complimentary cards.
What happens if you do not get the anticipated demand?
What happens if your sister does not come up with the agreed some. What happens if mum has some difficulty and can't give you the agreed money?
Test the market by asking locals questions and see if they would consider the service.
If you are good and your prices low and you are committed, and consistent, you should do well.
It is a repeat business, you will get people coming back and telling each other. Stake your prices realistically find out what others are doing. Remember there are other costs too.Say the chemicals, servicing after the guarantee expires, etc.
Find out if the machine is cheaper any where else or see if the company can reduce the price of the machine through a discount.
Get cracking if you think its for you. Tag your sister and mum along and get them advertising for you. Before you know it, you'll all be running around. You might be able to start by designing your own leaflets on your PC.
Remember businesses require serious thoughtfulness and perseverance.
Good luck! |

give it a shot. If you only get 3 clients on a one time basis then you got the machine for free worst case scenerio. |

Sounds like it could turn out nicely for you. You seem to have put some serious thought into it.
If you go for it, good luck! |

It sounds like a very good idea to me....one thing to remember, always act on your promptings! You were prompted here so it's important you go for it.
The only thing I would reconsider is the amount you would charge for a cleaning. I think you are setting your prices too low. No one has ever cleaned my living room carpet for less than $60, but what I would do is call around and find out what others are charging and take it from there. Maybe charge a little less than the average, but don't go too low.
There is never a guarantee that you will get clients, but again, change your thinking... "picture" 10 clients per month. Then go out there and be the best that you can be!!
I'm rooting for you here! Have an awesome day. |
