Should an owner that is bartending or waitressing get or accept tips?
Generally, we are the poorest paid employees of our company, with many expenses, so what does it matter who gives service, as long as it is the best it can be (and definitely, owners want to give impeccable service) and we will be there without fail to continue to give good service.

Sure if he/she worked for them, but a good owner would split them up with the other employees.

I think they can get tips. I would tip in a restaurant or bar to anyone who gave me service.

Tips are for good service - no matter what the person's title is.

Tips are awarded for superior service regardless of who provided that service.

i tip the owner if he or she is waiting on me. most of the time they give better service and thats what i tip on

Rromabella
Absolutely, you are providing a service and if the patron deems it good enough to warrant a tip it's perfectly acceptable.

ZinaRae
Wrong!! Etiquette says that an "owner" is not suppose to receive tips. He's an owner and is SUPPOSE to give excellent service. Check this out before you start letting the "thumbs" fly.

If an owner can get away with this without ANY of their employees seeing it, then I suppose it's fine! But imagine for a moment how the owner accepting a tip from a customer looks to one of the staff: typically, they ALREADY think you don't pay them enough, that you have unreasonable expectations, and that you are probably rich. Now they'll think you are a jerk, too!

Think about it, you can be sure they are thinking "Gee, if this were MY place, I'd politely decline the tip, and tell the customer the only reward I need is a fair price for the food/drink and their happiness..."

no,if the employees are gonna know. yes if nobody will know

Sure, what difference does it make. However, a good boss/owner would split their tips with everyone that is working that shift. This really lets you know where you stand with that company.

rec girl
Yes, I agree with you. Tips are for sevice regardless of your place in the business, but I wouldn't expect them.

Yes , why not ?
( but don't tell strangers you are the owner because people think owners are rich and won't tip )
With people who know , let the hired help take care of them unless they tip !
