Should we let the government dictate to us where we are allowed to smoke ?
after all if there were trying to increase people's well-being and health why not ban smoking all together.

Why did we let the governments allow people to smoke in pubs, restaurants, and many other placves where non smokers would have liked to have gone?
It is for people who do not want to breath in cigarette smoke that the law came out.
How can you tell people not to smoke at all?
This is a 'free country', but until recently I wasn't free to go to many places without breathing it that disgusting smoke. The new law has simply addressed the balance. |

I believe that if an establishment wants to have a non smoking restriction and needs it backed by law I have no problem with that...... But to BAN it from ALL establishments is just wrong. There is absolutely no allowance for freedom of rights in a law like that. |

in some cases, I think they have the right. by the way, I'm a smoker.. but when they say we can't smoke outside and now they are trying to prohibit smoking in our cars; that's when I have to say that they are getting just a little too pushy. it's one thing to stop smoking in public buildings, even in stadiums, but OUR OWN CARS ?? give me a break ! |

I say no! The government has NO right to tell us if we can smoke or not.
When the cars stop smoking, when the factories stop smoking when we quit dumping who knows what into the water, when the farmers quit letting poisons into our plant life and veggies, then MAYBE government can tell me that my cigarette is killing someone else!
And what's up with the "no helment" law for motorbikes?
If they are so concerned about people killing themselves why not look at that? |

I would say, even as a smoker, that, within reason, the government should be able to allow non-smokers to live their lives in smoke free environments purely from a health standpoint. However, smokers should be allowed accommodations to smoke in many areas easily accessible geographically, but with separation from non-smokers. There should be no reason the humans should have carcinogens imposed on their everyday lives without a choice. |
