By far the best way is to print some ads on ordinary paper and stick them through people's letterboxes in the area you want to work in. |

Maybe Yellow Pages?
Not sure if that's free (even if it isn't it will still be minimal)
Or maybe local newspapers. |

Hi There you cannot really beat places like www.freeindex.co.uk and hotfrog or gumtree and any of the small business groups in your area.....
Also why not do circulars and drop then in to your local Industrial estate businesses
regards and hope it helps
Of course you could also start up your own website by using such tools as sitebuilder and a yahoo hosted domain - although this way would of course cost you some money although it would be a lot lower than if you paid somebody to do it |

You can advertise on

http://www.myspace.com
And on other sitess given. The secret is to advertise everywhere you can. Picking and choosing may risk your chances of gaining potential buyers etc. |

You can get involved in online groups, your local BNI and make up some flyers to hang around town...grocery stores, post office.
Hope that helps.

many people do well with networking groups, it gives you a chance to meet other businesses in the area.
some groups like BNI (www.bni-europe.com) have groups worldwide, you sign up to attend a breakfasting meeting every week at the same time and take along referrals for other members in the group, similarly they bring them along for you.
some businesses are easier to refer to than others, but if you have say a mortgage broker or estate agent on the books then you may do well with leads for people moving into new homes, similarly if you are doing carpets and someone is decorating you may be able to recommend an interior designer, decorator, electrician etc linked to the group
based on the givers gain principle of you helping others and they will help you |

try www.craigslist.org for starters; choose your hometown/ city and go from there. also try yahoo! hotjobs and you can even try getting a blog for your business, and advertising through project wonderful. in fact, my blog has free ads right now. though i will say my blog is about my indie greeting cards and paper goods company, it is still advertisement and gets a lot of traffic daily ;) lncgreetings.blogspot.com also, i discuss ways of guerrilla advertising and marketing-- leaving flyers and business cars in shopping carts, on bus seats, and the like. |

Flyers are great, be sure to list your services, free estimates, bonded and licensed.
Business cards are a must, too.
Here's another idea--
Magnetic signs and, better, a vinyl wrap for your vehicle. They aren't very expensive, in the long run, and it turns your vehicle into a mobile billboard. Every time you're in traffic, someone will read it (best if you have something on the back of your vehicle-short & sweet), whenever you park your vehicle, people see it.
Now here's the trick, park your vehicle where you want to get business! In busy parking lots, by the entrance/exit or intersection. In or around the neighborhood you want to work in or the office/commercial area, so it appears you already have business there! |

We made flyer's, we put two on one sheet with a $5 off coupon to new customers on it, that way we could cut them in half and have two. We got the best response from putting them on the grocery store bulletin boards. Then offer your clients $5 or $10 off their next cleaning when they refer someone to you and you clean for them! Word of mouth will get your business booming faster than anything! Good Luck! |

These may not be free, but they are low cost. Office max has great deals on business cards, it adds professionalism and confidence to have a nice card to hand out. It may also help to offer a small incentive to people giving you a referral. word of mouth is the greatest tool marketing has, and if you tell people they will get something in return they will be more apt to talk about your company. With gas prices the way they are I like to offer a $10-$20 as card for every new customer someone brings. You may do that first cleaning for free or cheap, but then you have a customer that will pay you over and over. And don't forget to tell your new customer about the same deal.
Money is always tight when starting a new business, but some sort of marketing is vital to get in the game. Don't be afraid to spend a little |

The hands down best form of advertising for a service business is vehicle graphics. It turns your car into a moving billboard and makes your company look a lot larger and more reputable to call on.
Check out this link to learn more about vehicle graphics and wraps: http://www.crankycreative.com/2008/05/eye-popping-vehicle-wraps.html
Give me a call if you are interested in turning your car into a billboard for your business. We even provide a business card holder for your vehicle so when you are parked, someone can always take a card!
