Missy | Starting a new job tomorrow.. need help!? |
Im starting areceptionist position tomorrow, (no previous experience) and i'm so nervous. I'm worried that this job might be overwhelming for me.They are gonna teach me how to manage the switchboard and all that, but i'm still worried. Is it hard to manage it?? : ( And i'm worried what people are gonna think of me, I just want the people there to like me.
Any ideas? |

just do what you have to do to keep the job running smooth , dont try & impress anyone too much ,dont gossip about people or take sides with people , offer no strings attached sex to the boss & you will do just fine |

Relax! The phone system is not that difficult. And they must have thought you could handle it or they would not have hired you. Remember, this is business and not a social event. Do your job as they tell you and everyone will like you. Pay attention in your training class and all will be fine. :) |

You should dress good focus on everything the people say and work your hardest. |

You were hired because you demonstrated the ability to do the job and have the skills. Smile. Every one is nervous on their first day of work. There would be something wrong with you if you weren't. Do the best you can... don't be afraid to make mistakes... and just be nice to everyone without being overkill. You'll make friends and enemies soon enough. Go in with a positive attitude. You'll laugh at this question in a week, two weeks or a month. |

Starting a new job is sooooo STRESSFUl.. Your not alone..I just started a new job and I have to start ANOTHER new job where I'm gonna be in management..So I know how you feel. If you've been hired for the position, Unless you Lied about your previous experience your gonna be fine..They wouldn't have hired you unless they knew you could handle it..Try not to stress..Starting a new job is hard..The 1st day is the worst..Switchboards aren't hard to learn.. |

don't go with the attitude of wanting everyone to like you, they will walk over you. just be yourself. don't worry about learning things about the job. the know you're new and haven't done it before. you'll be fine. |

Congrats on the new job!
Personally, I think the first week or so of a new job is the easiest. Because people know that you just started, they'll have more patience with you, and there are fewer expectations. So enjoy it!
Tips:
1. Ask questions. You need to ask to learn. But make sure you ask the right person - someone who has demonstrated a willingness to answer them.
2. Try to have social time with people. Coffee break or lunch, it doesn't only make the work day more enjoyable, but it'll help you down the line as you build your 'social capital' at the company. But watch out for office politics - other people will notice who you're friends with. You can decide how you want to handle it, but just a note to be aware that it's always there.
3. It might sound silly - but dress one step nicer than you have to. Try to dress similiar to your boss (but not nicer than). If your boss is a different gender than find someone of your gender in the company who is doing well and dress like them. It'll make a long lasting impression on people and influence how they think of you, of your competence.
Good luck! You'll be great!
(I was a receptionist once, I was terrible at it. But it didn't matter, people liked me and I moved over to another job at the company that suited me better. So don't worry!) |

You will manage just fine. Keep calm. Be friendly, cheerful and professional and things will go well. This is not a difficult job but if you do well you will get noticed and may get promoted. Just remember you are the first impression that people get of the company so you are very important. |

BREATHE, MISSY!!!! BREATHE!!!
Phone switchboards are a pain in the ***, but not that hard to learn how to use... Just calm down, focus on learning the job, and you'll do fine. |
