Starting my own business?
I have recently started my own ironing and washing business. I have named it Pressed for Time. Can anyone give me any more ideas on how to advertise this. I have done flyers, business cards and I have posted them to various companies. I have went round various areas putting leaflets and business cards through doors. I have left flyers in restaurants and garages. I have placed ads in the local papers. But business is very slow and I really want to succeed in this, any help would be great.

Hey there!

Very catchy business name! I love it! I have a suggestion for you to promote your business. Its using the the principle of leverage.

Identify a coffee shop / pizza place close to your business place. Meet up with the owner, introduce yourself and say that you would like to get into a strategic alliance with them. Tell them that you would like to leave some gift vouchers with them to hand over to their customers with every coffee / pizza purchased. (You need to decide what amount you would like to give a FREE service for. Remember, if you give a $10 gift card, it doesn't mean that it costs your business the full ten dollars. The real cost to you may only be $3 or $4. It's the perceived value / cost that you will be giving away for FREE.)

Now, tell them that you would also be more than happy to do the same for them. They can give you vouchers for their business which you could hand out to your customers.

It works for both parties involved as your businesses do not compete against each other.

Also, maintain a data base of all your customers and send them reminders, cards, make them feel good! Yes, you would have to use advertising media like yellow pages initially. But what I would suggest to you is target the area around your business because thats where you will get most of your customers from.

If you need more info on the strategy I mentioned above with the coffee / pizza shop, please feel free to get in touch with me. This is a proven strategy and works very well in any industry. I would be glad to help you.

All the best!!

Regards,
Namz

nurseries and child care centres are where you will find busy mums who might make use of your business

local football and other sports clubs sometimes welcome their gear being done instead of dragging it home to their missus

like the name!!!

building up a reputation doesn't happen overnight, you have to work at it.

congratulations on being so enterprising, hang in there, and your reputation will help your business expand

good luck to you

Hi!

One of my friends has an ironing business too.

She has had the back window of her car lettered up and it reads:

ABC Ironing Service.
Give us a try.
Your Clothes Will Be Impressed!!

With the leaflets and flyers, you need to keep doing this week after week. Not everyone is going to want your services all at the same time. But if you keep your leaflets and flyers going -some of the no takers will eventually turn into customers.

Best of luck!

Hope this helps!

Be sure to also advertise in local laundromats. People going there might realize your services make more sense. Also, if you have a local college, spread the word there. College students are notorious for not liking to do laundry.

You can visit the site listed below for more ideas on marketing and creating wealth.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing, just keep the momentum going and give it a little time. You may find your best source of new customers is in your existing customers. Provide the highest quality service you can, and ask them for referrals.

i had my own construction bus and one way is to make sure that style of bus is needed in that area. and word of mouth is the best way to get bus. you are doing the right thing just takes time as well.. and go to places that would use that style of bus or post this in a laundry mat.

I started my company two years ago and have never advertised. Word of mouth is by far the best way to get better buisness. Try giving your existing clients a better price if they can introduce friends etc. this is by far the best way.

Excellent name - Pressed for time.

Just a thought - I wonder whether people think that you ONLY do ironing, and not the washing as well. You might want to clarify that as well.

Do you offer a weekend/evening/early morning collection and delivery time? Do you in fact collect from people's homes?
Can people call you or email or text you at the point when they want the items to be collected?

Are you targeting the right "yuppie" types of people?

How about offering people a free first wash to get them in.

Perhaps advertise at up-market gyms and health clubs.

Pressed for Time. Congratulations on an excellent title.
Are you sure you are targetting the right people. What you need to find are professional/business women, with families, who are too busy to do their own laundry.
Provide your existing customers with a first class service and they will recommend you to others.
Any business like yours takes time to gather momentum, so stick with it.

Try a website. I always search for services like hairdresser, ironing, etc on Google when I need something.

If you have an informative site around your business with some content, you'll be easily found if someone types in "washing YourCity". Bingo!

Your own site is more effective than a yellow ad and costs a lot less....

Two possibilities occur to me...

i) who are your customers - busy people, people with money. Where do the people with 4x4s and mercs hang out - golf clubs, the gym.....

ii)broaden your business, add more ways to make money from the customers you can get...

maccheesetoot
Try you local post office - ours has an advertisement board where you pay a small fee per week to advertise.

Ask your customers to pass your name and business cards on to family and friends.

Good luck
