You need to decide how much you want to charge per hour, then work out roughly how long each job will take to complete. |

I assume you mean interior, office cleaning.
You work out how long it takes to clean an average office and base your hourly rate on that. Don't forget to include cost of cleaning materials and transport to and from the building
It is a very competitive market.

Hi, there is a start-up guide here for a cleaning business http://www.startups.co.uk/Cleaning_business.YYWeL15oS63Ijg.html it will give you a basic idea of what you need to do.
from experience i've learned that being an expert in what you do doesn't mean you'll be able to successfully run a business - you'll need to develop loads of new skills like time-management, negotiation, selling and more... so attend as many free workshops as you can on tax, finance, sales & marketing etc etc and if you want that extra security do a short business planning course before you start-up, that way you'll cover all the basics and have an experienced tutor to help you.
Once in business make use of local (or online) mentoring programmes and join forums where you can discuss your business issues with other small business owners.
I have included some more links below on general business advice, make sure you do lots of research before jumping in - especially if it will be your main source of income!

Most figure the cost per square foot then multiply that by the square footage . You may want to call around a few places that do this type of work. Should give you an idea and you can make adjustments . You've entered a business with a lot of competition . How well you do your job will lead to where you want to be. |

You also need to have liability insurance when you do commerical cleaning. Always scope out your competitors and see what they are charging. Include the cost of your cleaning supplies and factor in the cost of gasoline which is very high. If you do commerical, you may need a team so you need to carry unemployment and workers comp. I suggest also you hire a CPA or you can do this yourself, then go for it!!
Not to discourage you, but I got to talking to a lady the other day that cleans. She tells me that the cost of gasoline is driving her out of the business.
Good Luck!! |

I am from NY and owned a cleaning business for years. It is best to get your tax number ,and accountant will do this for you. have your own vacuum, and cleaning supplies. In NY we charge 12.50 to 13.00 no matter if it is an office or a home. You don't need the vacuum or supplies on every job but if you use them the the client you are charging 5 more dollars. |
