Stay at home mom making an income?
I have two children age 26 months and 9 months. My husband works and I am a stay at home mom who almost finished college, but not quite...what can I do to make some money from home? I've tried Mary Kay and some ebay and on-line surveys, but with ebay I sold all my personal items that I don't need anymore how do people make so much and where do they get the stuff they sell? Is there like drop shipping companies or what? I don't have a lot of extra money to put out there, as things are tight now-my husband is comission only and things are slow due to the economy. I am a great writter and enjoy organizing and have thougth about those things, but I really want to do something like on-line sales that I can do from home so I don't have to take my kids to a sitters. Any suggestsions? All answers are appreciated that are realistic and thoughtful.
Thanks for your time!
Additional Details
When I said I tried MK...I've been a consulatant for teh past 4 years, and I don't like the way the comany is going for starters and I've found out a lot of intresting things that I don't agree with about the company and I just don't feel like the type of person who wants to sell skin care etc. I want to do more! MK was not a huge thing for me because while making money excites me make up does not anymore!

You tried Mary Kay? Are you still a consultant for Mary Kay? If you are, I think you should build that business. You can't just try a business, you have to build it. If your still a consultant for Mary Kay, then you still have an opportunity to make a good income for yourself. Trying a business, you set yourself up to fail. It's not a job, a business that you own inside your house. That's like telling someone that "I'm going to try and have a McDonald's restaruant. No, you can't try a business, you make a business successful. Home based businesses are designed for families. I have my own home based business in the telecommunications industry. Both my husband and I and we both work from home with out kids. But the same with Mary Kay. It's a business not a job. We've had it for seven years and built a very nice business for ourselves. You can do the same thing with Mary Kay, you just need to put effort into it. So if your still considered a Mary Kay consultent, then my suggestions is to start working it and building it.
If you don't have a lot of money to dish out, and are not looking for another business, then take a look at home jobs. They don't have the income opportunity as a home based business, but it can help make ends meet. The pay is minimum wage, after taxes are taken out, your take home becomes below minimum wage.

Hello,
Ok I like to see you are in the right road. In this moment, home based bussiness has a great amount of opportunities.
There are two of the best that I have found:
Multilevel Marketing : you can use the internet to sell the products and the opportunity.
this is a great example: http://oacs.therenegadenetworkmarketer.com/

Your own web page: You can use your own webpage to earn money, writing about what you like (if want more information click here http://wahm.sitesell.com/OscarAlejandro.html)

If you are a good writer and love to organize things why not try to sell those? People are always looking to get more organized.

You could go to elance.com and sign up there to be a freelance writer.

You could put together some kind of package that would get people organized whether it be stay at home mom's who need to better organize their days, or business professionals or secretaries that need to better organize the office.

If you are good at sales and can write well, come up with a good sales letter to post on ebay. There are thousands of items you could sell - YES through a GOOD dropshipper. That way you don't have to leave home or store any kind of supplies at your home and do all the mailings and running to the post office. A very good and reputable dropshipper that I know is alibaba.com and theshipper.com

Geez there are hundreds of ideas you could do!

Good Luck!

I also have 2 kids who are 16 months apart. I started working from home when they were 2 & 3 and now 5 years later. I am stilll doing it and we love that I can be there full-time for my kids and still add to our household income with a legitimate business. I can put my head on my pillow every night and feel good about what I do.

It is really the best of both worlds. Check out my profile to get more info on how you can find out more!!

Hello, I have a home business in the Greeting Card industry that is excellent for a stay at home Mom. It is done entirely from your computer and your telephone. We have over 11,000 cards in our database, or you can create your own. It's easy! You can upload photographs, add frames, captions, voice bubbles, etc., and a REAL greeting card goes out in the mail. We submit our handwriting and the card is signed in your own handwriting, or you can choose from a variety of fonts. We can also add gifts like motivational books, we have a candy line, tea and coffee samplers, gift cards, etc.
I market mainly to salespeople that are interested in relationship marketing. It helps them to keep in touch with their current clients, as well as generate new clients and referrals. They can add their company logo as well. My daughter is a hairstylist, so she takes pictures of her clients while they're excited about their new hair-do, then in 6 weeks she makes up a card with their picture on the front, adds comments and reminds them of how "beautiful" they felt. Her repeat business has picked up tremendously! This also applies to Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, Bankers, Car Salesmen, Chiropractors, etc.
It takes a little while to build it, but success is the result of repeating small tasks day in and day out. The income potential is amazing for doing something that is so much fun! Contact me if you would like to have me walk you through the process and you can send a free card to your husband so that you can see the quality of the cards, I think you'll be impressed!
Hope this helps.
