Chris | Stuffing envelopes at home for cash? |
My grandma convinced my mom to call a number to get an application for a job stuffing envelopes at home for money. The application came and they wanted an application fee of $25 by check or money order (she sent a check). Sounds fishy right? But she's convinced they are legit. This was a few weeks ago.
Today, my mom got a letter from them saying the application was accepted and now they need her to send $5 cash in the mail for them to send the supplies. What? The bast ards want more money? And sending cash in the mail is risky anyway.
Also, the company hasn't ever given their name. All the correspondence has is "Personal Resource" and their address.
And I've read all over the internet that this is a scam and machines stuff evelopes faster and cheaper than what this company is offering, which is about $2 for every envelope stuffed, and a start up bonus of $225.
I'm 100% sure my mom is getting scammed but what can I say that will make her convinced? |

Their envelope stuffing program is very profitable. You stuff money into an envelope and send it to them, and they make money.
See, it works! |

This is absolutely a scam. Machines do this lots cheaper than people. |

There is a lot of information on the net about these scams.
You are right - A machine can stuff them for a fraction of the cost that a human could, and do it faster.
Do a search for "stuffing envelope scams" and then show the results to your mom. |

Sorry to say this but anytime someone wants you to send them money to work for them is not the way to go. It's not like the home party plans that want you to pay a fee for their starter kits. This is how the envelope stuffing people get rich! Also beware of any of the other work at home scams out there.Like assemble products at home etc. I would reort them to the BBB and do a search on the company anytime that you want to check a legit company out.I hope they listen to you and don't send them anymore money! I would call the number again and ask them the name of the company, the address and so forth. Make out like you are interested. When you get this info hang up the phone. |

Say, "I think this may be a scam." Don't be too pushy since it may become a matter of pride for her to keep on going. But after losing 10 or 20 dollars she may catch on.
Sounds like she might get off easy. It will be a good lesson for her as well. |

Ask you mom to reason on it...if it was not a scam, why wouldn't they have just charged $30 up front? (not that I think it would be a good idea in the first place), were they willing to put something in writing? where is their phone number to speak with them direct?
Have her call the BBB in the city this company is from, and see what information they have. Try doing a reverse search one the address and see what you find.
She is being scammed, and I hope you can help her from losing more money. |

Everything you've already said to her is true; so you should just try harder to convince her. No legitimate job will ask the applicant to send money. There are lots of web sites (I put a link to one below) that discuss this scam. Perhaps you should print out a few articles for her to read. |

Tell her there are programs she can join for free to make money at home.
If she'd like to see site descriptions, proof that they pay, and a lot more information, please ask her to see my profile.
I have been averaging over $2,000 a month on line for the last 4 months. All of these sites are free to join.
I would also recommend never paying an upfront fee. If a site/company was really making that much money, they would not need to charge your mom.
Hope this helps, and have a great day. |

How about getting her into a legit home business. DO your homework. Find legit companies to get into, look for something that has a product/service that she loves. There are a number of really great companies to get into.
I own an on line travel agency. I love it! I found a really great company that is publicly traded and a member fo the BBB to do it with. The parent company gives us excellent training, support and mentoring. I get the best commissions in the industry, awesome tax benefits, and the travel credentials are awesome! The main thing I have to do is send people to my website to book travel. I hand out business cards, flyers, bulletins, lettering on my van, and good old word of mouth.
If you look you will find something that is a good fit for your mother (and who knows, you might find something too). Good luck and hopefully the envelope scam is the only scam she'll ever fall for. |
