JWD | They keep sending me gifts... what would you do? |
I'm a property manager at a high rise office complex. Our secuirty officer contract is up for re-bid. For the past 6 months, one security company (not the one we are currently have a contract with) has been sending me and my staff all kinds of gifts.... Omaha Steaks, Gift baskets, Flowers, gift cards, birthday cards, holiday cards, lol they even sent holiday cards to a few of the tenents lol ... I feel kinda obligated to award them the contract, how would you feel?? Thanks

If I don't reward them the contract to this company, how will my staff and tenents treat me?? This security company gives my staff more than I could ever afford to give them..... Oh man, look what I've started, I should have never let it get this far. |

Considering I work in the security field, I wouldn't base who gets the contracts solely off of gifts. I would do a little shopping around, have a couple other companies come out and give you a consultation, see what they have to offer. You might find that they're giving you gifts to turn your eye from poor workmanship.
Just an idea. |

manipulating quotations, fixing prices, favouring a specific supplier while placing an order, altering a product samle with the intentionof getting approval for a substandard item and so on is unethical practice and this is common in todays business world. As a part of relationship building vendors give personnel gifts like you mentioned. i suggest you therefore to keep organization's interest in mind and undue favour should be avoided. I would ask them to bid for the contract but explain to them that you must stick to the rules and guidelines and although the gifts were appreciated you have to be fair to the other companies. I have a feeling that if they win the contract the gifts will fade away. You gotta give them an A for effort and persistence though. |

I think you are in emotions you should not feel obliged by these gifts but see what is better for your company and you in future |

get with your workers and ask them. but also check the security place to make sure they are good and not just ginving you gifts so you can give it to them.
