I plan on starting up 3 different businesses and want to use one phone to answer all the phone calls. What do you think is the best way to do this without using any of the actual businesses names? If somebody is calling one business I wouldn't want to answer as if they were calling another. |

I would suggest that you set up a call processor for your phone line. Your phone company MAY be able to help or you can get a machine or use your PC.
The call processor would answer, I'm making this part up, "Big Enterprises. Thank you for calling. For ABC Company, press one. For 123 Company press two. For MY Company press three."
Then see if you can program the phone or machine or your PC to give a ring tone based on the company selected by the caller.
I don't know where to tell you to start on machines or your PC but your phone company would be the best bet. |

Most phone companies offer a service where you get different ring tones for different incoming calls, but i don't know exactly how it works...it was not very expensive, though. Otherwise, I don't really have any ideas...i do not like when i call a business and they don't say the name...it makes me feel like i have the wrong number, and it seems unprofessional. |

I would be upset if the person answered saying another company if I was a caller to your company. I would not call back.

Simply answer "good morning/afternoon, how may I help you".
That way, the caller gets the impression that they have reached a business, and they will ask for the business they called for. |

Will each business have it's own phone number? If so your solution is a multi-button phone - one button for each number, one for hold. Costs about $50.00 at your local telephone store. |

Go with Vonage or Packet8 Business plan. Have three lines, you will get three tones, and you can take your business with you if you travel to starbucks or wherever. |
