Additional Details
I'm just getting started and new to this so I would greatly appreciate it if you had personal experiences with the providers and could share your experiences -- either good or not so good! Thanks!

There are a few great web hosts out there that can assist you in achieving your expectations for your website. Most web hosts will include your domain name and register it for you as part of the hosting package. There are even web hosts that will assist you in setting up a blog on your domain. I would suggest that you take a look at several hosting options so that you know you are getting the best match. While comparing, first compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. Using this process will ensure that you get the best fit for your needs and the most value for your money. Also keep your expectations in mind. What kind of appearance do you desire? What kind of features do you expect to have? How sill you drive targeted traffic (visitors) to your site? And so on...
As you seek you will find out more expectations and find features that will compliment your site. With the host I use, they have great tools for beginners. They have also assisted me in blogging through my site and we send out a ezine (newsletter) each month. All my work has been learned through assistance. The web host I use even analyzes my work for best results. There are other great hosts out there too. If you would like to look at the host that I use as one of your options you can see them at http://find.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html
I would be happy to share more about my experiences and give you some tips if you'd like.

BEST WISHES!

We gained a lot of experience and knowledge from our website www.shareworld.co.uk started about 3 years ago.
It was initially hosted for free but we soon learnt the errors of that, although the site is now profitable
If you would like to read our suggestions of how to do it have a look at http://www.ds32.com Even if you pay someone to do it for you, it is advisable to know HOW they are going to do it, and for you to know the options.
As you see we recommend 1&1 for hosting (and domain name). Although we earn a little bit if someone signs up you will see a lot of people also recommend this company. And as we say our site has never been down whilst with 1&1 (that's not the same as the free hosters, I can assure you).
If you need any advice or help you can always contact us.
Another good resource to remember is Statcounter (free) This is a small piece of code that is incorporated in your website that logs who visits your site and where they come from. This can be very useful in analysing your visitors. Additionally they have a very good forum where you can get a lot of help and advice about everything web related. Hope this helps. Even if your website is for Internet "presence" and not to make money in it's own right, it should still be done correctly at the beginning and this will stand it in good stead as time goes on. Bit like the foundations of a house!

ukreg.com for purchasing
YOu have full control of the domain and there is no charge for changing things like IPS tags, nameservers and moving to another company.
We have 100+ domains with them.

Used to use many others but often found that hidden charges were a problem when moving a domain.

As for hosting - loads out there - depends on your control and bandwidth needs i suppose.

With business...reliability is evertyhing. Your probably not going to get that from the likes of godaddy. Check these guys out...ive been with thema while and they specialise in small business.

Take a serious look at Iplus Digital. They are provide exactly what you are looking for at a really low price. Their hosting only plans start at 4.95 a month and they accept paypal.

http://www.iplusdigital.com

Be aware of FREE hosting as usually you get what you pay for.

Best of Luck!

I personally prefer http://www.hostgumbo.com/webhostingpad.html ... they offer:
- Unbeatable Pricing at only $3.96 per month with their new promotion!
- Free Domain for life!
- 99% uptime
- 1700 GB Disk Space
- 17000 GB Bandwidth
- Free Ad Credits, $25 Google and $30 Yahoo!
Feel free to email me if you have any questions or just want to talk about hosting and websites in general. And remember, always do your research before you buy. Good luck!

you can buy cheap domain names at http://www.hosting3i.com or http://www.smugin.com

You can also build your own website with online website builder with templates included. (hosting and email is included in plans). You get 24/7 phone and email support.

If you buy the website builder package then your domain name is $1.99 only.

networksolutions is also good. but there domain prices are $35 per year.
