What are some good idea's to make some extra cash on the side at home?
My husband wants me to start staying at home rather than working. I want to too :-)
Mainly because I have a hard time finding time to balance work/housework/cooking/laundry/bills while working 40 + hours a week.
Problem is, we've got used to living on two incomes. And although I throughly despise credit now, and plan on never ever using it again... We still have bills.
If I stay home, I think that I would need to at least bring in SOME extra $$$ For emergencies, because right now, our budget is tight as a ducks butt on water.
Any idea's how to do this?
PLEASE I don't want to see spam!

:-) I do teach piano...
But I have given that up since my husband is in the military. It's not quite fair for the students to have to switch teachers every 2 years because their teacher has to move. Every teacher has a different way, and you have to stop, unlearn, and re-learn every time you switch teachers unfortunately.
I have taken 10 years of piano...

If you really want to work from home, and want a real opportunity then I suggest you start your own home based business. Don't look for home "jobs", or "online jobs" or "surveys" or anything like that. You will be dissappointed.
Here's how the survey's work. You have to spend aprox 10 to 15 minutes per each site to register. (this is non paid) Then you'll start receiving emails for surveys. Each survey you have to complete a 15 to 20 minute pre-qualifying survey. (you dont get paid for this) Then if you do qualify for a survey (which majority of the ones you don't qualify for. so you've wasted this 15 to 20 minutes and sometimes longer of non paid time.) Then if you don't qualify for one, they offer another and you have to do the same thing, and the same thing happens.) You waste approx 45 minutes to an hour until you finally qualify for a survey. You take a 30 to 45 minute survey and make under $10. Normally it's $1 to $3 a survey that they claim takes 15 minutes. That's not including the 15 minute prequalifying survey. So you've now spent thirty minutes and made $3. And the process between each of the survey sites is the same. So you can pretty much do the math. It averages out to be between $2 to $6 an hour. Sometimes you do come across a survey that will pay you $25 to $75 a survey.

Here's how they work. It could be a telephone survey or a internet survey. You get the prequalifying part of 10 to 20 minutes then if you qualify for it another 15 to 30 minute survey or a telephone survey about the product your about to try to see if you qualify to try it. Even though you took a 10 to 20 minute "prequalifying survey" that said you qualify for. When you qualify for it, they send you a product out to try for 7 to 10 days and you do some daily documentations on it. Depending on what the product is and the documentations it's usually 2 - 15 minutes (you got a free product to use around the house, this is a good part of it) after trying the product out you have to complete another survey that takes between 15 to 30 minutes to do. Now you do the calculations on that. You don't get as many of these types of survey's. They use the hype on getting paid $25 to $75 dollars for 15 minute surveys. (notice the plural in "surveys". What they don't tell you is that there is more then one survey involved in these. Now calculate from your prequalifying survey to the next pre-qualifying survey from the company carrying the product, to the trial and documentations, to the last survey on these products. Then you receive a check four weeks to six weeks later.
Another way to earn money on survey sites, is to refer people over to the sites. Some survey sites will give you a percentage on what the people you refer buy off the sites as they get a percentage back off of what they buy. It's about 1% or less. You either get a lot of points for this that when you reach a curtain amount of points you can exchange it for cash or prizes. (Cash amount is usually $30 before you can cash out- do the math on how many pre-qualifying surveys and the surveys you get, the time involved etc this is what it takes to earn the $30) Other survey sites you complete shorter surveys (5 to 15 minutes) and your entered into sweepsteaks or lottery things for prizes or money.
Okay, I'm starting to write a book. I can go on about all the other types of survey's available and what was in volved in that if you'd like me to elaberate on it.

There are so many different home based business to start up. Things from Child Daycare Centers, cooking, scrapbooking, Telecommunications, fishing charters, Candle Making, Travel agents, Tax Preperations, Health, Accounting, etc etc etc. You can turn just about any type of business into a business that you run out of your home. Their are many different types of home based businesses. Most home based business cost under $500 to start. I'm going to be honest with you like I am with everyone else, when starting a business, their is no money at first. You have to build it up. No matter what business you get involved in. The more effort you put into it and how hard your willing to work it, will depend on when you start making a sufficient amount of income. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

In home based businesses, depending on which one you get involved in, it usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks to start making an average income. 4 to 6 weeks to increase that.
and 3 to 6 months to be self sufficient. If you put the time and effort into it. Most people start their business on the side if they don't have a cushion to live on while they build their business. This will allow you to build your business much quicker. But most people have full time jobs and run their business on the side. When their business reaches the income level they desire, they put their normal jobs down and continue with just their business with or without help. That part depends on you.

I don't have much to go on with what your interests are. So I can only try and help you out by refering you over to a few different businesses to take a look at. I'll tell you what my husband and I have had and enjoy doing for over six years now. I can also refer you over to my blog on my 360 yahoo page on "home based businesses" There are over half a dozen different ones to take a look at for more ideas.

We got involved in the Telecommunications industry. We picked this one because the income opportunity is just incredible, and to me it's more practical. We partnered up with a 15 year old world wide company that offers services that people use every day and pay for anyway. They are registered with the BBB. They've also been featured in several magazines like USA Today, Success, Fortune etc. Inc 500 also rated us the 22nd fastest growing company in our first five years. We are world wide with headquarters in in Farmington Hills Michigan, Carolina, Canada, Europe, Australia. So it's a pretty good sized organization to be involved in. We offer services like Local and Long distance telephone services, Internet, digital, video, VOIP, Satallite TV, and all the major cellular phone providers like Verizon, T-mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Nextell, Alltel etc. as well.

How many people do you know, or know of around the world that uses one or more of these services? That's why we chose this business because everyone uses one or more. It's a service that people are not going to give up on because money is tightm their going to pay their utility bills then purchasing the top brand of soap when they can easily run to the dollar store and buy a package of 4 for a dollar instead of a bar for $2 sort of thing. You know what I mean? We save people money on services that they are already using and paying for, and offer them services that they don't have, but would like to. As an example, say they have a local and long distance telephone service, they want Internet, I offer them the internet, they accept and Every single month these people pay these bills that they are going to anyway every month, we make a percentage. You get paid every single month for these services over and over again. Once their on a service, everytime they pay their bills each month, you get a percentage off it. This is a very profitable business to get involved in. A lot of money involved in this industry,

If you'd like more information, your more then welcome to email me at anytime.

I am retired and need a little extra income, I sell stuff on Ebay. First I cleaned out the junk in the house and sold the good stuff. Now I go to garage sales and find good stuff - it is amazing what you can find and double and triple your money. It is fun too. It is just an idea, but profitable.

sell stuff on e-bay. or work part-time helping older people in their home--there is lots of demand for that.

you can always sell Avon or MaryKay or something. a lot of stay-at-home moms do that. you could also watch kids in your home. that way youre making money, but you can still do things around the house. or you could tutor or give music lessons, if you sing or play piano or something.
you can set up a lemonade stand. :) haha, I'm sure that would bring in a lot of bucks

Direct Sales there are so many companies these days and even if you move you can take it with you. I can tell you from personal experience leaving my job did cut down on some expenses such as eating out or take out because I was too tired by the time I got home to cook gas from the commute and now I make my husband bring a lunch to work instead of eating out all the time :) I started my direct sales business before I quit my job for the same fears you mentioned now I like it for the me time. the good thing about something like Mary Kay is it is a consumable product and you can keep you customers no matter where you go. You don't have to have parties to do well. I think there is a site that list all direct sales companies.com that way you can see if there is something you would like a hobby like scrap booking or food tastefully simple and pampered chef purses jewelry whatever you like you can sell. Since I used Mary Kay for 6 years before I started selling it I was already sharing with family in friends it wasn't until 4 years ago I started doing it and it is much more then selling make up for me.

The problem with "working at home" is that you are STILL working. I lost my job due to downsizing last November, which worked out fine because we also have a web business that got very busy around the holidays. I figured it would be great to work at home taking care of the business, and possibly get a part time job on the side. Now I work 8 to 14 hours a day and the house is not only a mess, it looks like a warehouse to boot! While I have to admit it was wonderful not to get in the car and slop through the snow on the way to work every morning this past winter, the down side is that I can't clock out...so please consider carefully the "work at home" ideas. Some ARE spam. Many require some sort of an investment from you that you may not recoup...scouring garage sales for eBay deals is great, but again, you would be investing time and effort and not staying at home. You might want to consider a flex-time or part-time job rather than giving your job up altogether. You also might want to consider some long-term planning prior to leaving your job. Put every penny of your current paycheck away. Pretend that you don't have it. Do it for a year. THEN quit your job and you'll have a backup stash while you find an alternate ~ and hopefully less time consuming ~ means of earning a supplemental income. Sorry to be so long winded, but I hope it helps.

This would be great as it can be done over the Internet, phone, mail, or in person from anywhere as much or as little as you want. VERY FLEXIBLE!

This requires a $299 investment, but so worth it!

If you’re serious about being your own boss, making an honest income commensurate with the effort you put forth. I have been working with a company for a while and have had great results. If you are interested contact me at allican57@yahoo.com

ebay, no joke, it's a good way to make some extra cash, get rid of some stuff you are no longer interested in, and it's kind of fun.

If you dont like spam stay away from the home surveys and offers game. You won't make enough to pay your internet bill each month let alone any income for anything else... what a complete waste of time and typing skill. The reality is that you are not going to make money working for someone else so while piano may not be right for your lifestyle, you've got skills that are marketable. Consider the needs of those around you and come up with a product or service that is needed or wanted. Your local newspaper or a chat with friends/neighbors can be very helpful in your decisions. Don't wait for your ship to come in ... Swim out to meet it.

You could take up art and sell it online at www.yessy.com or practice writing and maybe write for Associated Content online. Then there are a variety of crafts you could make and sell them on Craig's List or at craft shows around town. You could even make drapes and curtains for those who want something new for their home.

Oh! And then there is Avon. That always sells well.

WelI I actually take surveys for cash. And yes they do pay as long as you know the good ones. I have some free survey sites that are very reliable just check out my profile by clicking my name or email me for them. I only give sites that I've been paid by so you won't get scammed. They're all reliable and I've never had a problem with them. (I've been doing them for a year now) The best part is that anyone can do them and they're easy. You won't get rich but they definitely help with bills :)

Normally it's always best to work in a field you're really familiar with. If you've been a piano teacher, why don't you use those skills online?

You could for example set up some courses that you'd sell online. These could be a mix of documentation and videos.

Once you have something to sell, you NEED a web site or blog. If you're not to knowledgeable about web sites, go for a free blog on Blogger ( http://blogger.com ).

Once the site is almost ready, sign-up for an account on a transaction processing service like Juzaz EasyPay ( http://easypay.juzaz.com ).

One of the best ways for a stay at home woman/mom is to build your own website centered around something you love to do, have a passion for or interest in.
Then you find ways to earn an income from it, such as selling products, ebooks, or earning commissions from affiliate program and google ads.
The beauty in having your own website is the flexibility of the time you put into it and the low cost of investment and upkeep. It's ideal for a woman that wants to work around hubby, home and children.
