What are some summer jobs a 14 year old can have?
I am 14 and need a summer job! I am a referee, but that ended 2 weeks ago! I need a way to earn some money to buy clothes and shoes and whatever else i want! I am a guy, so noo babysitting! I've already tried passing out flyers for mowing but nobody called me back! What can i do?

Yeah - I'm sticking with mowing. i understand that no one has eturned calls on your flyers, and that happens. Flyers was a good place to start and I would stick with that. Make sure they're up every weekend. In the mean time, talk to your parent's friends and your friends' parents. Also, like even those that have college degrees, sometimes you have to hit the pavement. Go out there and ask businesses. They may have someone already, but they might drop someone like a big lawn-care company for you if that means saving them money. If you get that cool gig, then make sure you do an awesome job. You're not under contract so if you do a crappy job they won't call you back.

As cliche as it sounds, also look into a paper route. You get pretty goodmoney and you'll get used to waking up early, which means that you'll be more mentally alert throughout the day and enjoy your summer alot more. You might be able to work it out to deliver papers in the early morning, mow about 2 or 3 lawns in the morning, chill out in the after noon, and if you want, mow a couple more when the temp goes down. You'll be able to afford pretty much anything you want then.

I like Jonni and Dawn's ideas as well. Doing odd jobs and errands for the elderly is a great idea in more ways than just money. The elderly talk and if you do a good job for one, then others will hear and have things for you as well. Pretty soon you'll be the nicest guy in the neighborhood.

Just keep trying. I, personally, would let some kid mow my lawn if they asked, rather than hiring a lawn-care service.
I've been there before.

Try checking your local pubilc pools to be a lifeguard, or how about a a kids reck center.... helping smaller kids and going on fieldtrips with them, a newspaper route has always been for the younger crowd, some fast food places you can do food prep and cleaning , but you must have a workers permit, as far as the mowing... in my neighboor hood on the weekends the kids litterally walk from door to door WITH the lawnmower and most of the time people say shure... you are alredy here with the mower.. for some one to call and have to make an appointment.... ahhh just makes them loose intrest.
Try at a garden center... watering the plants. what about at a movie theater??? You could be a bagger at a grocery store.... get out there and talk to people... friends family and strangers.... you never know who will give you an oppurtunity

Also it sounds dumb but again the kids in my neighboorhood make ALOT of money doing this...
They buy a pack of bottled water.. the cheaper the better... but make shure they are 20oz bottles... Get yourself a cooler and fill it with ice... go find a busy intersection and post up... Hold up your waters and sell them for $1 .. alot of HOT passerbys will buy them...unless they are snooty. And a 28 pack of water might cost you 5 bucks but if you sell each at a dollar, you just made 23Bucks off of some water!!

Keep passing them out someone will call. You could also post flyers in the laundry mats and gas stations, hospital bullentin boards (well you get the picture) maybe don't just limit it to mowing, also offer help cleaning attics for the elderly, garages....washing cars, running errands be creative. By being creative you would never get bored by doing the same old thing everyday. Another thought, try volunterring for some of the local VFW, American Legion, Eagles clubs for help cleaning up after fish frys and such, when you put yourself out there and the people see what you can do and that you are dpendable etc they would give you a call and or ask you on the spot...

Yeah it just takes time. when i was 14 I was a soccer referee, which paid pretty well...you just need to take a class. What's wrong with babysitting it pays really well and i mean you get to play kid games like hide and seek and batman and stuff (i'm a girl but i have an inner tomboy and i babysit all the time). I'm a lifeguard (need to be 15), that also pays well, just take a class. I teach swim lessons (also not too bad paywise, don't have to have a certification but it helps). My brother and I petsit for our neighbors, and other people hear about it and call us. Same with yard work. People will talk about who helps them with yardwork, pet sitting, etc and ask for your numbers. You can try putting an ad in your local paper, ours is relatively cheap and all kinds of jobs and people looking for jobs are posted.

Offer more than mowing. Yard or garage cleaning and organization. Umpire for youth league softball and baseball. pet sitting-no joke some people really use them. odd jobs for neighbors, friends and family.

good luck
