if you mean, why become incorporated?
incorporation separates your personal assets from the company. that is, the company becomes its own entity. if the company fails or is held liable, the risks to your personal assets (ie home, car, etc.) are then limited. in turn, you "pay" for this protection through higher tax rates. |

Used to be a big tax advantage-not paying tax on the first £10K but that's gone.
You can avoid NIC by paying yourself a small salary & taking profits in dividends. However, that could affect your benefits entitlement. As a limited company, your liablity is limited, so if your business goes belly-up your exposure will be less than being self-employed. |
