Florist is one of the hardest businesses to be successful. They are a dime a dozen, and there is just not enough demand. And with on line flowers, B&M business are stuggeling even more.
Best: Buy an established business or franchise, like Conroys.
Educate your self: read every book you can find on the subject. Talk to others who have suceeded or failed.
Find a niche market, something few are doing.
Start small: Try selling flowers at farmer's markets, craft fairs, park a van outside the office buildings on Friday afternoons and sell the husbands going home for the weekend.
Don't sell the farm. Have something to fall back on. Like savings. |

I would get some practical experience working in a small florist or something and pick the owner/managers brains.
You need to weigh up all the suppliers of everything you need and if you can meet and talk to them see how they can help you.
Then you need to look at who you intend to sell too how big is the market who are your competitors what are their prices and how much profit you can expect to make.
Then you have to plan how you are going to make the sales. Advertising, marketing. What is your budget for this going to be?
Will you need a premises what location is best what are the business rates associated. The utility costs. Will you need transport. computers card processing equipment.
Then you work out your start up costs, your running costs and work out how many sales you need a week a month etc to make it worthwhile. If you plan to undercut your competitors can they undercut you more? what are their expenses.
If you think you can make the sales and it will be worthwhile. To me worthwhile means you can make enough profit to live comfortably and hire more staff. If you cant hitre more staff growth will be difficult to achieve.
You don't need Business school unless you need to learn skills like book-keeping and people management. You need a plan and dedication and a tough hide because people will knock you usually because they don't have the guts to do what you are intending to do.

SBA website and they have lots of help when you are wanting to start a business of your own, I have looked into this type of store and there id help all over the internet for this www.sba.com this site even has sample business plans for when you need to obtain a loan in order to start your business. A FEW THINGS TO NOTE ARE
if you need premises what will they cost you per year
what price are you buying the flowers at
where will you get your flowers from
what extra materials will you need to produce your displays eg. celophane ribbon
cost of running car to fetch flowers and possibly deliver
cost of accountant
insurances
look into all these costs to find out what price you will be selling your flowers at and see if it will be profitable
remember working from home is the cheapest way but you have to put up with more mess and less space around the house

there can be places that can actually give you a grant plus have advisors to help im in northern ireland and there is a business enterprise so if you are in England im unsure what place would help maybe a search on yahoo will help you find for your area ,princes trust is for business start but has a limit on age .
My aunt opened a business and got a grant for aobut £500 and advise all for free. |

First - get them flowers. Tall, short, leetle ones and dem big ones. Gets you a few a dem red ones and the yellows to. Maybe some of dem roses for de lovers and the valentino day.
