1. Location of the Business.
2. Market saturation (how many restaraunts are in the area)
3. Being able to secure product (your food, paper goods, inventory items, etc) at a reasonable price and quality, and selling them with a competitave edge.
4. . Poor accounting practices. In the first few years of business, most generally your bottom line profit will be nill. A good watch on your books will most certainly have a major part in success.
5. Advertising
6. Poorly trained managment
7. Poorly trained staff
8. Poor customer service
9. Diversification of menu (keeping what works, trying new things, pulling things that don't, must appeal to a broad audience.
10. Atmosphere of the restaraunt. Once again a broad audience must be appeased.

The number one reason any business fail is lack of advertisement. One of the key things needed when going into any business is how much are you going to have in your advertisement budget.
Make a good marketing plan. See if there is a need for the type restaurant you want in the area you want to set up your. Find out the number of estimated people will visit your business in the first 90 days of operations.
So my top two would be
1. Advertisement
2. Marketing |

The number one reason is not enough experience. I'm not trying to be funny-- it's true. The thing you can't control is usually the biggest factor for falling flat on your face. |

I have been in the Restaurant Industry for over 20 years, including being a Chef in Las Vegas.
Many factors contribute to a restaurant not being successful; each case is different. Being an owner, Research is VITAL to success. You must know the business, inside and out! As a first year business, I can't emphasize how important MARKETING?ADVERTISING is (assuming everything else is going well, i.e. servce, food quality, healthcodes, etc) |

1. environment.Where is your location is very important.and where a customer eat is SO important.
2. service.how you treat the people coming in the restaurant. when they call u shouldn't say wait" respond"
3 .food.quality and costumer need is important.
4 .price.too high price can make all your costumer to run, but if the price is reasonable the costumer will come back
5.promotion.cut the price let all kind of people to come and try your food
.6 image.the first step is important . |

1. Chef/owner is trained in cooking, not management - doesn't keep his costs down
2. Costs are too high - the key to running a business is keeping costs as low as possible - don't hire too many people or buy too much fancy equipment
3. No idea what the competition is - relates back to #1. You've got to know whether you are competing against small local places or national chains with huge marketing budgets.
4. Location - restaraunts need a good location to attract customers. Foot traffic in the city, and parking / easy access in the 'burbs.
5. Owner/chef doesn't invest enough time/money (relates back to #1). It takes time to get a business up and running. You probably wont be profitable for a year or two - so if you don't have enough money saved to live on for that long, you'll go bankrupt.
6. Opening the wrong kind of restaraunt (relates to #1 and #3). A small cheeseburger stand in a wealthy neighborhood won't do well - neither will a 5 star French restaraunt in the 'hood.
7. Poor day-to-day management (relates to #1). Ordering too much food that gets thrown away, or having too many servers / busboys / chefs working at any given time gosts $$$.
8. Not treating customers with respect. Repeat customers are where many business make their $$$. If an order is wrong, give it to them for free, and let them keep the bad order - and dont argue. Being perceived as cheap keeps customers from coming back.
9. Poor marketing / publicity. People need to know about your restaraunt for them to dine there. You can't open quietly - you need a publicity / marketing plan.
10. This is last on purpose - low quality food. Bad food will cause people to not come back, but it's not why restaraunts fail. They fail because of bad management, not bad food. |

1. Lack of Planning.
2. The food. You can have capital and do everything right but if the food is not worth eating. Forget it. Customers would spread the word. I've seen this happen to many resturants latley.
3. Capital.
4. The one where many mess up in and is location. Yes, if your food is great but still location, parking space for
5. I should really put this first but here goes; the customer service is where many mess up in. Getting business is easy but keeping it, sustaining is the key. So if you have customers keep coming and word spreads.
6. Marketing. I always thought someone should always concentrate in using creative marketing instead of loads of flyers, leaflets. Do both but use creative thinking and include the newspapers, magazine to write about your food, the service because though many don't believe it, it does work; when people read it they trust it a little more, so you've created an eagerness for a want - a desire to come and eat at the resturant.
7. Lack of management, with stock taking, accountants. Some leave it so late with accounts and it cand destroy a business and heavy fines can flow in.
8. Staff - if the management doesn't give incentive to staff and treated them like slaves, then you could have a bad health because you, the owner is covering for staff not turning up. Keeping staff is one of the most difficulties for many resturants and as yet, some are not treating their workers with respect. |
