I am thinking about setting up a affordable handmade wedding stationery business, but also offering a service to those with even a smaller budget to attend a day course one on one or they can bring a along a group of friends. Charging about £60 plus materials and they receive tution into making all their stationery needs for their wedding and take home the supplies to continue the rest at home. |

I think the idea of having both a service and a course is fantastic! Go for it!! I got my dad to make my wedding stationary and saved a fortune so people are definitely interested in saving where they can!

Good idea but be carefull with the tution thing people pass info on, I would keep it one to one. You may end up loosin custom if everyone knows your tips etc |

Its a good idea but you need to think about your target audience.
How are you going to attract enough customers who can afford a day off near thier wedding to come and see you ? I guess many would have to stay in local B&Bs as well so thier real cost is £120
Also, they cannot take the course at any time, they need to scheduel it in after the wedding start and in tiem for the invites to go out. so you would have to offer it on a regular basis and that means you may be running many sessions light of enough people to turn a profit or break even.
Also, how will you make money from £60 if you include the stationary. It need to be good quality...blank decent card will swollow that £60 for a hundred invites.
Its a good idea, but it doesn't sound cost effective to me. |

that is a brilliant idea, I think there would be a market for it, but you just have to advertise yourself in the right places. Im sure you know that but yes, I think you should go for it, aside from the fact your helping people make a happy day even more personal, you will be working for youself, and nothing beats working for yourself!

Hope you succeed. It sounds like a great idea! A lot of people are realising that weddings are very expensive and looking to find ways of saving. As handmade will be more personal than the usual available stationery I think it will be nicer too! |

Great idea. The thing that's going to sell your idea is a great portfolio, showing stationery, fabrics, calligraphy and wrapping techniques. Follow up with a super business card plus an internet site if possible.
Have you done your marketing homework? For example,who is already offering the service in the UK. Could you advertise through wedding faIrs and photographers studios? Good Luck! |
