I am self employed and just do sessional work for a very large well known company at the end of each period of work i send in an invoice. However they are now saying that they have lost one of my invoices and that i need to resend it. I wouldn't have a problem with this appart from the fact that the invoice was for January and i have still not been paid. |

You need to resend it asap. Then call the payment dept and make sure they got it and when they will send payment. Welcome to self employment,ive only been waiting 8 months to get paid from a large company,and its been 4 yrs from another. I want to be an employee! ha |

Hi, if you have a copy of the invoice re-send it. If not, you can create a new invoice and re-submit it.
If they won't budge, ask an employment attorney to contact them. Most attorney's will make the call for you for a small fee. Sometimes all it takes is a friendly call from a lawyer and everything will be solved.
Problem is they won't hire you again.
So, you may be stuck without getting paid.
Sorry, but today that is how companies operate in this ultra-conservative business climate. |

welcome to the world of the self employed, where all payments are always late, maybe you should employ a credit controller to remind them and then proceed with legal action should it be needed. |

Invoices get lost all the time.
They should make effort to pay you ASAP but it happens, that's all part of being in business (which is what being self employed means) |

I would try to be accomdating and re-submit the invoice with a 30-day remit note (they had plenty of time to comply before - they need to "fast track" this payment, IMHO).
If you plan to do more seasonal work for them, you may want to apply a late payment fee in the future - doing so now may cause some problems, as it was not an agreed upon term.
If they do not pay you in a timely manner, you may want to contact a collection agency and add the collection fee to the amount they owe you in total.
It's a hassle, and self-employed consultants and service providers often get pushed around, but it's all part of the package, unfortunately.

If it's a January invoice why are you waiting till April to chase it.
You should have sent a statement on the 1st of March (if you terms are 30 days) and if it's not paid by the 7th of March phone and ask for a payment date and explain that the payment is overdue. |

This happens to my husband all the time. With one particular client, no matter how many times he chases them up the response is always akin to "the cheque is in the post". Trouble is they post it second class! He stopped them paying by BACS as they kept getting it wrong - and this is a major company too.
In the end he goes on "go slow" and only does the work he is supposed to do (no call outs, no extras). Invariably this works only to reoccur a couple of months later. This plays havoc with our personal bank account as, being paid by cheque means that he has to wait for it to clear in his business account then transfer to our personal account.
There is no "set" way to get them to pay you on time - with regard to you sending another invoice, I trust you kept a copy so this should not be a problem. Fax it to them as well as sending a copy "recorded delivery". You can always claim the postage back by losing it in the amount you charge! Cost of living charges rise, ie petrol, rates, utilities etc.

how do u know they lost it ?? just cos they told u that doesn't mean it true does it?
just resend it and make sure u receive an acknowledgement from stating they got it. then if they are late paying you you can take em to court!!! |
