What clothing is to be worn on a building site. e.g. shorts, no shirts, trainers.?

not a large building site. Just 4 people.two brick layers and two labourers,building houses.

comfy shirt/t-shirt and jeans/shorts whatever that you dont mind getting ruined, steal toe capped boots and a safety hat, gloves and goggles preferably, maybe a mask if required. :) xx

must place required jeans and a tee shirt steel toed boots are a plus but not necessary goggle should be available as well as masks

Your five best friends are your hands, feet, and head/face. Get protective gear for your best friends.

Boots should have "safety" toes to prevent crushing injuries and be high topped to protect your ankles. The lime in the mortar is just going to eat up shoes made of fabric or thin leather.

Let the experienced workers be your guide for protecting your hands; when I worked masonry I wrapped my fingers in aluminum foil and first aid tape each morning, and then wore gloves. I bought gloves by the case, as I often wore out a pair in a few hours.

Use common sense about the hard-hat and goggles or safety glasses. If there are workers up on scaffolding, definitely use the hat. If you are around where cutting or breaking up of materials is going on, protect your eyes. You might think about wearing a mask to protect your lungs from dust.

For shirt & pants, again be guided by your collegues and supervisor. Masonry can be very WET work (the water you work with as well as your own perspiration) and you may want to get synthetic fiber clothing that doesn't get soggy, especially for underpants and sox. Keep cotton bandanas or sweat bands around, as a synthetic shirt tail is absolutely useless for wiping your face or hands.

Vinegar is helpful for removing masonry smut from skin and clothing; white distilled vinegar is sold by the gallon in most supermarkets (in USA). If you get broken skin on your hands, apply that liquid bandage stuff, cover with waterproof first aid tape, or something. Try to keep the masonry smut out of it or it will take forever to heal and scar badly.

Eat a big breakfast and pack a much larger lunch than for school or office work; you are going to be burning up the calories! Drink lots of water throughout the day. Best wishes.

long pants, long/short sleeve shirt, hard hat and of course steel toed boots (not steel toed running shoes). Hubby had coworker that wore shorts one day and sliced his leg open on re-bar.. was nasty!
