Find out where important things (telephone numbers for emergency situations) are.
If there are any pets, find out if they have any strange conditions. (Trust me, this could be scary. I was babysitting once and the dog passed out.) Also, find out what to do if something strange happens to the pet.
Get cell phone numbers so you can call the parents if something goes wrong. |

If you are just meeting with them to see if you are a good fit, then you may want to ask about the child you're considering watching, for example, how do they sleep, are there any health conditions to be aware of. Also ask about the neighborhood concerning safety, dependable neighbors or close by stores or eateries.
If you are going to start watching the child, the first time you sit, you should find out important contact numbers for the parents and also an additional contact in case of an emergency, like a neighbor. Ask to write down the address. In case of an emergency like 911, you need to know where you are. Ask where baby things are and make a list if things are scattered around, so that you have access to everything the baby may need. Ask about neighbors, if they are trustworthy, comfortable with the baby, etc. in case someone tries to take advantage of you being there alone.
If this is an "interview" consider taking a list of other parents you have watched children for, as references. |
