Before you do anything, make ssure that you have the money. You shouldn't have to borrow the money or pretend that you're going to make enough to make the business worth it.
Go see an accountant. Talk to other landscapers. Gather the details before diving in. |

Money- this will be used to buy all the equipment that is needed. Also make sure that you have enough money for day to day running of the business. You will also need the money to spend on advertisment for your business so that people are aware of the business.
You will also need to know prices that you are going to charge and the places that you will be distributing your service to.
A business name is also needed and you will need to register your business with HM revenues.
You also need to consider what type of business it is, such as sole trader or partnership and decide on if you are going to be hiring any staff.
Also look around at any competitors that they you may have, this may influence any decisions that you made. Remember you want to do better than your competitors and provide a better business! |

You actually don't need that much money, Maybe get a credit card at Lowes or Home Depot and buy the basic materials and supplies. Get your business license and start advertising. And when you get your first job, buy the extras that you need for that job and you can build up from there. I have my own part time Painting biz and I barely spent any money. The best thing to do is buy what you need as you go, and try to add it into the quote. But remember you might have to under Bid to get those first jobs.

First of all I take it that you have experience...and secondly if you are asking the question in the first place, i would recommend that you don't bother.......shovel and contacts and recommendations and a little capital and make sure that you empress your clients for return work |

Start small. One of my neighbors owns a multi-million dollar construction company and has made all of his family millionaires. He started 45 years ago digging ditches and doing jobs no one else wanted to do.
Take the jobs nobody else wants: plotting out the layouts for trees and then planting the trees, lawn clean up, spreading gravel and mulch, edging lawns and sidewalks, etc.
Realize that you need atleast 2 1/2 times the money it takes you to live in order to quit your job to persue this full time and 90% of all businesses fail within the first year.
Start small, and schedule people for weekends. Most people will love the concept as they dont have to take off work to be at their house while your doing work. |

A adequate and fair business mind, equipment to fulfill all the requirements you suggest, a dependable staff of at least one (you as the other), adequate bookkeeping skills, a good responsibility level to fulfill your schedule and tax requirements, and probably the best one to clinch the deal, clean, neat and a good, solid personality...Good Luck....everything else will fall in place, either in the learning side or the teaching side... |
