I would recommend at least 15 dollars an hour if you supply all the tools and products needed for cleaning and 20 dollars an hour elsewise.
Some of the numbers above--8 dollars an hour or 60 dollars an hour--are ridiculous. |

Depends on how experienced the housekeeper is and exactly what she does. Does she do detail work; does she do windows, does she do the oven, does she do the floors on her hands and knees or with a mop. How many rooms does she clean and is she thorough? Is she expected to change the linens and do laundry? All of these issues will help determine how much she is paid. Very experienced housekeepers in my area get from $20-30. per hour and are do a very complete job for that rate. |

15 to 20 an hour is the going rate around here, what's the deal with these money making scams, I see on the wrong posts? |

My wife does that here in N.C. and she charges $15.00 an hour. There are people that charge less, but these people know my wife and know they can trust her, so they would rather pay the extra for the security of knowing she is trust worthy. |

I think that about $10.00 would be fair. A person who cleans houses has to smell all of the cleaning products (which is bad to a person's health in the long run), scrub your toilets, etc. They also have to do a lot of manual labor. |

Between 7 and $10 per hour. Depending on their experience and how thorough they are. |

Often people are paid a flat rate, for example it used to be in Miami that someone who cleaned houses got $50 for a morning or for an afternoon depending on the time the employer wanted.
Probably prices have gone up, but $50 for three or four hours work is not bad money even today. That way you would have a list of things you wanted done so if they come once a week maybe it is laundry and run the sweeper or whatever.
If you have a clear idea of what you want on a regular basis and an idea of what you would be willing to pay then you can negotiate. Get a recommendation and call references -- you don't want to employ a thief or an illegal immigrant. Be very careful who you invite into your house. You can also contact some of the businesses that do that sort of thing like Merry Maids, but then you would be stuck with whoever they send.
Also issue the person a 1099 misc. at the end of the year and that way everything is legal. Explain to them how they will be paid. If they do well you can always give them a bonus or include lunch on the days they work. Since they will be responsible for their own self employment taxes with a 1099 misc. then you may have to add an additional $10 to each pay period because they will pay at least 16% for self employment.

My wife does house cleaning. She basically gets $8.00 an hour.from 3 of the people, but 1 person just out & offered her $40.00 for 3 hours work. She grabbed that one right away! |

$60 per hour for cleaning your house. So if you have a big house chances are you have to pay more than the hourly rate of $60. |
