"Under the table" is a phrase referring to having an unofficial or unreported business arrangement with someone. The physical motion of slipping money to someone beneath a table's top so no one could see the
action occurring is used as a metaphor for employing someone without following bad rules or perhaps good regulations in the hiring process; the person paid unofficially does not have a written or verbal contract, no rights, no complain procedure, no benefits and no one to examine his working conditions for violations of safety codes etc.
The person being paid "under the table"does work because he/she needs the money badly or for some other personal motive; the person paying a worker in this way expects adequate work but for whatever reason cannot or will not pay a just wage and agree to fully-normative working conditions in all other ways. |

It means they're not a documented employee. The worker comes in and washes dishes for a night and the manager gives him $50 in cash. |

It means that you don't report to the federal government that you have hired the employee, and that there is no official paper trail. The reason people do this is so that the employer doesn't have to pay any taxes, and neither does the employee.
As an example, people who hire immigrants who don't have the papers to legally work in the US will pay under the table. They don't report to the government that they have hired the person. The person does not fill out a W-2 form, or have money taken from their pay for taxes. The employer just pays them in cash, and no official records that might get back to the government are kept by either party. |

Not to pay any taxes. You can get away with a lot, such as not giving lunch breaks, overtime etc. |

not declaring that the person is employed.. no deduction for tax from his salary... this is mostly being practiced by employer who has illegal migrants working for him/her(no status nor ssn#) |

To get paid without reporting to I.R.S.
but there is a great down side to making money under the table.
you show no record of being employed, you don't have unemployment to fall back on if u loose the job, u cant collect social security and if by chance u should have an accident and become disabled u will get nothing$$$$
Do it but don't make this ur primary source of income and by all means do what u can to start a 401K these are stock investments that ur company sets u up with for retirement..
Hope i helped u ....................... |

It is usually in cash, off the financial records and the employer and employee could get in some trouble if you are found out. A lot of people do it though. |

pay them illegally, like niether of you can claim that money on your taxes. And they don't have to pay for insurance on you b/c you are not a real employee. you would make more money but if you got hurt at work L&I would not cover you. |

Pay them cash and neither of you pay taxes for the work done. |
|

It means off the records. The IRS doesn't know about it.
This is good for some, but bad for others who want benefits and such. Not to mention the whole legality/ethical aspect. |
