You should earn NO LESS than $5 an hour, and should charge more for more kids.
I would say:
$5 an hour for one child, $1 more an hour for each additional child. This would mean that if you watch one child, the fee is $5/hr, if you watch 2 kids the fee is $6/hr, 3 kids is $7/hr. For every extra kid, the hourly price should go up $1.
Trust me, it's a very reasonable price. You are young, but that is no reason for people to take advantage of you and just pay whatever they want.
Make it very clear that you are not a maid, so don't worry about doing dishes, laundry, etc. If they ask you do clean their house, then they need to pay you extra for this. You aren't a maid, you're a babysitter. |

Yeah I've had trouble with that myself. I think that normally, it should be about $5.00 an hour, but sometimes a little more or less. Like if you're babysitting a lot of kids, then you'd obviously charge a little more. I hate it when they ask what you normally charge, because you don't want to say too little, but not too much. 5 bucks an hour is my advice. I suppose you could charge more, but it could come off as greedy. I think it also depends on where you live. Say you're in New York.. I think they'd charge more there. But compared to the other answers you got, 5 dollars isn't too much. That's about the standard around here though. (Wisconsin) |

My daughter is having the same problem. I told her that it is fair to charge whatever the minimum wage is. If you have more than one child to watch you can add a dollar or two per child. Ask those you babysit for what they consider fair and what oyur services are worth to them, then figure the average and set your rate. It is hard to ask for a certain amount of money for a job but it is good experience and the mark of a good business person- once you decide what is fair and reasonable and worth your time to do the job, set your rate and when someone new comes along for you to babysit for you will be prepared.

I charge $7-12 depending on how many kids and what time of day. If it is nighttime and the kids are going to be in bed the whole time I charge less than if it would be an afternoon and I would have to be playing with the kids the whole time. |

Anywhere from $5.00 an hour to $10.00 an hour. Your rates should be flexible to how many children and the family and whether the family can pay the higher rate and how desperate they are. For sure have an emergency rate for last minute jobs like $10.00 an hour and for a family that will use you on a regular basis $5.00 an hour. |
