If you serve up lovely food & give good service. The buisness will soon be hot by word of mouth.People will come back & pass the name on to friends.

j.pee69
serving good reasonable priced food in a quick clean and efficient way with friendly helpful staff and decent drinks to go with them.

Early evening meal deals, mid week specials, curry nights, a local restaurant has those and its always busy.

daftoldwoman
specials and deals on certain meals such as buy one get one free (bogof)
Keep it simple with good ingredients and customers will come back and also tell their friends and word of mouth is the best publicity ever.
good luck

marm
good offers, bogof, free wine, loads advertising of said offers

Check out the website www.barkeeper.ie. This has some great information on assisting restaurant businesses..... you won't need to look anywhere else.

Well
everybody including myself likes FREE stuff.

So I would say:
get this meal and get this free!
like a spaghetti meal with free rolls.
Or a fish meal with free fruit bowl.

Or free small salad with your meal...

or how about a free cupcake[ with your logo on it}
with every meal?
or a free apple?
Free pear?
grapes?
in a cute little basket...
or stuff like free dinner mints in a little bag like they give at bridal showers?

Or get a major candy copmpany to sponsor your free with meal promotion..
Like free Hershey's kisses with meal or
some other candy?

The company who helps you would get free publicity and you would get more customers..
But you need something they can't get elsewhere.
hershey's makes personalized bars..you could get some with your logo and info on it maybe?

In addition to good service, clean restaurant, specials, and the other stuff that has been mentioned, I have another one. Serve food that caters to a broad range of dietary needs/desires. I'm vegan (obviously), my husband eats meat, eggs and dairy and fried food (I also don't do fried). Also, offer food that one can't easily duplicate at home, for the most part. There are only a few restaurants where we can both have what we want and be happy. Near us is a Mediterranian restaurant. It serves straight vegan food and food that can be easily veganized. Also, almost everything is under six or seven dollars. I could try falafel patties at home, but it would definately not be the same. I do buy hummus and pitas from Trader Joe's (and can get two servings for the price of one at the restaurant), but even that isn't as good. On my last trip, I discovered that they have bean chili and a lentil soup, which I have yet to try. The only other time I've seen a bean chili is at IHOP.

When we lived in Michigan from August of last year to August of this year, we frequented BD's Mongolian Bar-be-que. It was fairly cheap, we could both get what we wanted (they evn have tofu) and fairly healthy as well. They even offer brown rice. (Not many restaurants offer whole-grain options.) Also, it was one of the few restaurants that was smoke free. If I can't breathe while eating, I don't want to eat. (We ate at a Denny's in Michigan once. We sat as far from smoking as we could when the restaurant was fairly empty and we could still smell smoke. Our clothes reeked of it. I e-mailed and complained and we never returned.) Thankfully, we moved back to smoke free Ohio. (Knowing that we would be in Michigan for a year, we used my in-laws' address as our permanant address. This allowed us to vote. We both voted for smoke free Ohio.) Also, I'm not going to want to walk through smoke with my two month old daughter. It was bad enough when I was pregnant and held my breath as we had to walk through the smoking sections in some restaurants to get to the non-smoking section. Go figure.

Another restaurant we frequent is the Winking Lizard with locations in the Cleveland and Columbus, OH areas. They offer a yummy black bean burger which I order with a baked potato. (The burger is on a multi-grain bun, but I don't know if it's whole grain or not. Since it's a restaurant, I assume that it's still just glorified white bread.) What we like about the place is that they offer 150+ international beers. They also have good specials, like Mondays and Tuesdays the small pizzas are half off and wings are a quarter a piece, or something like that. (I don't eat wings.) They also have daily drink specials and happy hour specials, like $1 off well drinks.

Just some thoughts...

I use to work at a pizza parlor and bar, on Friday nights we hired a karaoke guy since we were so close to the college campus, and we got swamped on Friday nights, and on Saturday nights we hired a D.J. so come in and play music, that too was a success

Why dont you ask Gordon Ramsey? He is actually casting for kitchen nightmares now

Great customer service and clean restaurant are two places to focus on. Insure employees treat guests quickly and cater to their needs, making them want to return. Good food and portions help as well.

Make sure the food is good for a start and then have one day (which is well advertised) when all your food and wine is very cheap. That should pull the punters in and if your food is good enough all those who ate your bargain meals should return; plus they will tell all their friends.

Have tribute bands there or Theam nights...do a "Gastro Bet"..... say a HUGE Stake and all the trimmings....if you can eat it you don't pay..!.... ( Hint -- use lots of Salt , that makes them drink more so you can get the money back via the Bar )..!.....Hope this helps

Getting Gordon Ramsey in :)

You should watch Kitchen Nightmares... i bet there is a lot to be learned for restaurant owners.

Basically it boils down to:
- knowing your customer base and being loyal to it in terms of what you serve and how you serve.
- Instead of serving loads of items that are ok, sever fewer options and do them really well.
- Get good staff and trust their judgement.
- Get rid of clutter in the dining area and the kitchen.
- Keep your food seasonal and fresh.
- Get out into the community and let them know you are there.
