Goodwill is an intangible asset attrubited to a business's reputation and the expectation of continued customer loyalty. The value of goodwill may be approximated by subtracting the value of tangilbe assets from the value of the business. Other intangible assets that add value include licenses, franchises, copyrights, and patents. |

Goodwill is a value placed on how customers feel about the business. Unfortunately it's something that isn't easily quantified. Supposedly, if customer's are very loyal to the company and keep buying their products or services, then there is a large amount of goodwill. Sellers will place more value on goodwill than buyers because sellers "know" how their customers feel and buyers have yet to find out. |

when an entity is purchased it is additional consideration then the entity's net assets are worth paid to the vendor because of other factors eg. established customer base, location etc. |

goodwill can be termed as cost of reputation.this is over and above calcuble price.
if an entreprise enjoys reputation for quality of goods/services it provides ahead of its compititors,it gains goodwill.
is sony shares are rs100 per share but if there are buyers to pay rs 1000 per share, the additional rs900 represents goodwill(a rough example ofcourse)
there are no of methods to calculate goodwill like super profits method etc.
the question of calculating goodwill arises in case of acquitions, mergers etc.
