What is "goodwill" when you sell a business or something like that?

jana1025
Goodwill is an intangible asset attrubited to a business's reputation and the expectation of continued customer loyalty. The value of goodwill may be approximated by subtracting the value of tangilbe assets from the value of the business. Other intangible assets that add value include licenses, franchises, copyrights, and patents.

I think it is in relation to being honest and forthright about the property concerning what you know about the property (the best I could word it in my laymen terms)

Goodwill is the difference between what a company paid for an acquisition and the book value of the net assets of the acquired company.

Goodwill is a value placed on how customers feel about the business. Unfortunately it's something that isn't easily quantified. Supposedly, if customer's are very loyal to the company and keep buying their products or services, then there is a large amount of goodwill. Sellers will place more value on goodwill than buyers because sellers "know" how their customers feel and buyers have yet to find out.

no..........goodwill is a store that poor people shop at because its all they can affoard - mostly used stuff that was donated to the store.

Goodwill is a thrift store. You donate stuff and it gets sold for a small amount of money.

when an entity is purchased it is additional consideration then the entity's net assets are worth paid to the vendor because of other factors eg. established customer base, location etc.

sastry_kvkunapuli
goodwill can be termed as cost of reputation.this is over and above calcuble price.
if an entreprise enjoys reputation for quality of goods/services it provides ahead of its compititors,it gains goodwill.
is sony shares are rs100 per share but if there are buyers to pay rs 1000 per share, the additional rs900 represents goodwill(a rough example ofcourse)
there are no of methods to calculate goodwill like super profits method etc.
the question of calculating goodwill arises in case of acquitions, mergers etc.
goodwill is an intangible asset.

Where I take the stuff from my house when I clean, and I even get a tax right-off for it.. How cool is that?

Goodwill, is a place where you can take new or used things, and donate them to the store. Sometimes you can use it for a tax write off, but its basically a store where ppl give thier used belongs to.
