Pride should be found in doing a job well, NOT in the type of job you have. My dad, an immigrant to the USA at 12, said "If you flip burgers, make sure you're the best burger flipper ever."
You can't change what they think about themselves, or their work, but you CAN make it a pleasant experience: fair pay, decent hours, flexible schedules etc...
Paying the bills and keeping a roof over their heads, should be motivation enough! =)~ |

Place comment cards regarding the cleanliness of the rooms in each room. Offer prizes and rewards for excellent comments. Other than that... cleaning up after people has no glory. Been there. There is no motivation. |

Offer them a living wage...
Or a raise |

Pay them a reasonable wage and don't make them work for "maids" wages.
They work their asses off, they deserve more than 9 or 10 bucks an hour, if they even make that much! |

Good question. Say, your not getting paid to do nothing. |

if you have enough staff, let them work in pairs.
introduce a star system for comments left by punters.
get a nice uniform.
appoint a manager, supervisor, etc
show more appreciation of commitment by suggesting promotion.
have a staff meeting and ask who wants to work here, and sack those who dont but need the money. theres nothing worse. |

Raises, housekeeper of the month award (with prizes), raffles, occassionally bring them lunch. There are all kinds of things you can do to motivate them and keep them happy with their jobs. |

Idk give them a tip at the end of each day. and gum to chew on. I like doing my chores while chewing bubble gum, it relaxes me and keeps me moving.
Always say good job and thanx. Give them all the tools they need in proper condition so they don't ever need to ask. |

Compliment their work and give them a little treat once in a while like pizzas, donuts, bagels. Make them feel important and in charge. |

give them bonuses periodically...many of them feel like they're not appreciated and I feel bad for them because they work for minimum wage:( |

Offer them some sort of prize at the end of the week. It doesn't have to be big... maybe like a small raise or bonus. it can go to the person with the most rooms cleaned, or maybe to the person who comes to work with the most enthusiasm and cooperative attitude. Even though it still sucks cleaning houses, this would probably motivate them a little more. I mean, who doesn't like more bucks for their bang? |

Try asking for their input. Try being flexable with schedualling. Work the working moms during school hrs. & singles during the other shift. Pay better than minimum wage. Have adequet supplies. Do not take in junkies [For the faith based gov. money] causing the housekeepers to clean up after junkies. |

showcase their work in pictures for other housekeepers or add bonuses. I was a housekeeper and barely got motivated until one day my boss took pictures of before and after my work and everyone wanted ideas from me on how I did it in one day! |

Money, but actually I asked my sig. other since he was manager of a nighly cleaning crew.
He told them that if they did their entire job right and got done early, they could leave early after he checked over their work. It raised morale like you wouldn't believe. They got paid for the full shift, they did a fantastic job, and were laughing and enjoying their work again.
He also bought pizza for them once a month or so, which was a hit too, since nobody every did that for them before. But they had to eat that before shift, not while they were on the clock. |
