Promote a sale going on (as most newly opened businesses have sales) in your local newspaper. Word of mouth and passing out coupons for a free gift for x amt of money spent etc.... Do NOT waste time on fliers because they usually end up getting thrown out ...and so do those little postcards as well. Maybe (my sister did this promoting her business too) Check out your cable company to see if they have a "business channel" and find out the cost of advertising a 5 minute spot telling about your business... That worked for us really well.
Good luck |

If your like me when I started my first company I didnt have money to advertise on tv or even in the newspaper. I tried flyers and that didnt really work but its always worth a shot. My first thought is making a website but that also is because I make websites..... Having a website will allow you to visit small businesses or have your flyer or newspaper ad extended with more detail and information. Try finding a college student to make your website instead of paying bigger companies it will save you hundreds of dollars. You could probably get one for about 200 dollars and 5 or 10 dollars a month. |

I recommend fliers in neighborhoods and local office parks. Another good option is to develop a website. That might sound expensive but these days you can do that for relatively cheap and eventually it will pay dividends. Show up at local events and pass business cards or flyers out. Here is a good article on marketing on a limited budget http://www.home-business-expo.com/972006_AffordableMarketing.asp. |

Get a small website and even business cards that you can put your website info on. You can leave the business cards on people's windshields and they will go to your site to learn more about your business.
My designer is cheap and very effective. He created a beautiful site for me and created a business card design that I could print from my own home printer (saving me a ton of money). He was referred to me by a couple different people, including my IT tech guy, who used to do computer tech work during his lunch break. His designer turned his business from a lunchtime hobby to a full time business for him, so I gave him a shot. He's fair, honest, knows what he's talking about and he's a genius.
I hired him while still working a full time job, just running my own "hobby" at lunchtime, but shortly, he turned my lunchtime hobby into a full time business as well, and now I work from home.
His address is:
