giggle_girl | What is the difference between an Office Administrator and an Office Manager? |
I wouldn't say I am the Office Manager, however I do run certain programs our small company has. I also do various bookkeeping tasks, while I am not the main bookkeeper. Been here 6 years, and we cannot figure out what my proper job title would be! Please help! Thanks! Additional Details Run certain programs, such as the warranty program, safety program, etc... Also do payroll, apply for permits, order supplies, sub for the bookkeeper when needed, etc... Basically a little of everything. I have never needed a title, but the boss is trying to figure one out, and we are having a hard time! Also, the only other people in the office are the bookkeeper, boss, and controller. |

Usually an administrator will just process paperwork. The manager actually manages the office and the office staff. I think it is really up to you as far as that goes. It is up to the company to dictate what position does what duties. You could probably look on some sites such as monster.com or career builders.com and see what it is that some of those companies show as a division between the two titles. |

I think it's the same, really. Anything is better than head secretary! |

Office Admin sounds appropriate, as it seems you are doing a more secretarial type role. or..Office Secretary? |

I wouldn't say that I'm an expert, but I have been in enviornments that had office managers and office administrators.
I would consider an office Manager the person who handles the personnel and HR components of an office on a day-2-day basis
I would consider an office Administrator the person who keeps the office alive in a logistics manner, the go-to person.
In many instances I would suppose they are performed by the same person, and this leads to the confusion of definition.
In your case, I would say you are an Executive Officer (XO), which would be a better title for someone who does as much as you do. |

How about "Administrative Manager?" I don't think there is much difference between any of the three titles. Does the bookkeeper work for you or independent of you or do you you work for the main bookkeeper? Depending on that answer, you might not be a manager. To give you a good title, I would need to know more about your company and just what exactly takes up your workday. |

Office managers get paid more.
Not sure what 'run certain programs' means so it's hard to tell. |

Usually a Manager is in charge. An Administrator usually reports to a Manager. |

Their just titles, you'd have to look up that particular companies definition. gl |

The employer decides what they want to call you.
It's the size of the check that matters most...not the title.
Sometimes the "manager" doesn't get to manage at all...as the ower likes to micro-manage..... |
