Did a single entrepreneur answer this question? On average a person going out on their own fails 5 times before they find success. Why is this?
A study of what makes a person a true entrepreneur found that they tend to be very optimistic. That is how they get up everytime they get knocked down.
They learn from every failure and improve their next plan.
I am on my second business. I blame no one but me for my first failure. I am on my second venture and know I have something going realy well (that darn optimism).
The other answers in this string are reflective of people who went on their own but never had the stomach for it. They typically hate their work and think being your own boss would make everything better. The problem is when you become your own boss all of your customers and potential customers become your boss.
I think two major factors of why we fail is the lack of marketing. You must spend money to make money!!! And accounting/taxes issues. Typically these people, including myself, do not have the mind for the "paperwork" of the business.
Anyway, that's what I think. Read "48 days to the work you'll love". It guides people finding the right career. |

Here's a story my colleagues won't let me live down
In 2000 I attempted to host an event for small business owners, i went through planning everything got the speaker, caterer, hall everything - but when it came time to sell the tickets I couldnt do it, no matter what I tried I kept coming up short - no guests, no way to make money I reluctantly excepted defeat and canceled the event. Five months later i receive an invite to the exact same event I had failed at, same place, same food, same speaker - I couldnt believe it. The consulting firm that hosted it saw the big picture and gave the tickets away and charged sponsors to advertise there, made twice as much as my projections.
So remember just because an idea didnt work, doesnt mean it wouldnt |

Hi there.
Although it is important to sell products that is currently 'hot' in the market but that might not be the contribution factor to the failure of a business.
Whenever it comes to selling products, the most important thing is to have a good 'packaging'. It must be appealing to others. Remember, most of the time, customers will trust the product more if that product is appealing to them. That is one valuable mistake we can learn from people.
The other reason is the lack of advertisement. Just imagine, if more people get to know your products, what are the chance of the people buying it? Naturally it will be higher and with a nice packaging and descriptions, you can be sure that your products will sell more than before.
Remember the two important factors in selling things. Packaging and marketing.

the first thing that we can learn is that somewhere there was a mistake in the strategies and plans that they have adopted.
the second thing is that you should never commit those mistakes. Luck also plays a crucial role.Entrepreneurs with rotten luck end up unsuccessful even if their plans and strategies are perfect. |
