First off, you can't get a business that is free. You wouldn't own it or a part of it. Noone is going to give you a free business (that's legit anyway) unless you inherit it through family members. If you really want to have a business, your going to have to invest something into it. That's just how it is.
With the question your asking, your best bet for the cheapest way to go about having your own business is to have a home based business. They have the same income opportunity as a traditional business without all the over head expenses. You won't have to put up money to open up a store by means of leasing or renting a building out. You won't have added expenses such as the electricty, airconditioning, gas, etc. because you'd be using your home to operate on. Then the other bonus side to it is just about everything in your home like your heating, electricity, phone, Internet, cellular phone, and car expenses becomes tax write off's.
I came across this blog that really helped me out in finding a business that I could run out of my house. After reading your question, I thought I would pass it along to you. There are over half a dozen different industries on this blog to look into. This blog also has a lot of information on home based businesses that you should read about. A lot of good informational things such as scams and what to look for, businesses and the bbb, and a few other things when looking into home based business opportunities. It really shed some light and I found something through this blog, and you probably could to.

Dear Dance Babe,
First, a few things.
1. Don't try anything that asks for a credit card or payment of any kind before you can really try it and check it out.
2. Don't try anything unless you can do a search on yahoo/google and find out some real info on it. (Beware of sites that make their own bogus "review site)
3. Don't try anything unless you can find a forum talk to others about the business.
4. Don't try anything that you can't talk/meet some people who are having success with it.
I was a struggling realtor/home flipper in Florida when I met a successful business owner in my town through a friend who introduced me to an internet advertising company.
I did some serious due diligence, BBB, called testimonials, googled the owner, etc. Awesome company and 8 weeks later i have about 85k more than i started.
1. You can google them and check them out on the BBB.
Nothing but positive. The only negative thing i have found is that their customer service can be a bit slow. I have since found out that is because they are now adding about 2,000 people a day and they are hiring more customer service and have just acquired a new 11,000 square foot office building.
2. You can google the owner and find out info on owner. Nothing but positive and successful.
3. You can join for free and check it out. Never a credit card asked for or anything like that.
4. I can give you names and numbers of successful people who are making alot of money with it.
5. I can give you a forum that is not associated with the company and you can talk to others about it.
6. No need to sell a thing.
7. This company's goal is to be the next Google/Myspace an instead of one owner and lots of stockholders making all the money it is us. That is how it is possible for me to have made 85k so far. (that is verifiable. I print my statement everyday.)
***I can pretty much bet there isn't anyone else out there offering these things. It's because they can't/won't. We can because we are a legitimate company.
