The fun thing about eBay is that there is almost ALWAYS a buyer for whatever you’ve got. I wouldn’t worry too much about sales going flat; it’s often more a seasonal thing than product related. (It’s spring; people are getting out more, away from their computers.)
I’ve listed antique books and plastic Star Trek toys and there is always a buyer. Some things to take care of:
1. SPELNILG!!! It’s unprofessional (and makes you look stupid) to have misspelled words in ANY printed material. Write out your ad in MS Word, then Hit F7. Once everything checks out, copy and paste into your seller form.
2. Pictures, pictures, pictures. People want to see what they’re getting. Shoot every angle, close-up and overall. If there are any blemishes, take a close-up and let them see that it’s not so bad.
3. Ad Copy. Learn to write. There are several decent tutorials on writing ads around the Internet; just Google “copy writing”.
4. Don’t play games with postage. I hate it when I see an item selling for 99 cents, then look at the shipping and it’s 20 bucks, when the item itself is tiny and less than a few ounces. Every one is aware of this kind of gouging, and while they might tolerate an extra dollar here and there, will avoid obvious greed.
5. Everything else. Maybe this shouldn’t be last on the list, but it’s the obvious stuff: Descriptive (short) headliner, make sure it’s in the right category, no reserve (if you’ve GOT to have a certain price, make that your starting price).
