Stay in school.
Why not start your own business by making yourself a helper to older people who own businesses who are not very good at computers?
You could even tutor older (40s-60years old) businesses owners or starters on how to better understand and use the computer.
Those people are busy and dont wanna take a class thats gonna last for a whole semester. Teach them how to use Outlook, Excel, Reprogram their PCs the way they want...teach em how to send an email or dump their cookies (youd be surprised)...

You would be surprised at how many kids are very good with computers.
The best place will be your own high school.
If your teachers are aware of your computer skills, they would have been constantly asking your help throughout the year. No small jobs or help with the school staff goes unnoticed.
Therefore it would be easy for you to get a small data entry job for summer school, and other summer clencal help with files, records, etc, mundane, repetitive jobs in the administrative area of the school.
What are the other places? Anywhere where you know someone. The grocery store, church, friends of friends....
Actually, a McDonalds stint will look good on your resume.
All McDonalds trainees undergoes one of the best employee training programs recognized in the corporate world.
If you passed the rigorous processes, you would be presumed to know food safety, kitchen safety protocols, organizational skills, customer relation rules, standards such as dress codes, verbal customer and co worker skills, familiarity with the till (cash register) on the spot mathematical skills, multitasking, and team work.
Dont knock MickeyD off the choices. Even if it was your first job and you lasted for only 6 months, it will be worth your while. |

Skilled with computers? RIght on! Start a computer fix business - either fixing the bugs in people's computers or upgrading them. These "geeks" charge from $25/hr and up, even up to $75/hour. Put a small ad in your local paper(s) a cheap one sometimes works as good as an expensive one. Compare to other companies that do that same thing, and copy their best traits for your own business. Go on to VistaPrint.com and make some cheap business cards up. Open a checking account in the name you want to call your company - and get ready to pay taxes ! Of course, the more sophisticated and the larger you grow, you'll want to incorporate as a C-Corp for businesses. Huge write-offs, and legal protection. Then at that point you'll want to hire a bookkeeper at probably $300 a month or less, and a good CPA to do all your tax stuff right. And by the time you're in college, you'll have a good career even while finishing up your masters degree in computer technology..... |

How are your phone skills? Working at a professional's office (doctor, dentist, eye dr) would be good pay. Setting appointments, taking information.... Most stuff like that is on the computer these days.
If you can find someone who's willing to hire someone as young as yourself, that might be a good start. Start with your doctor or people you know who might let you get your foot in the door. Let them know you have great people skills and computer skills and maybe even include recommendations from teachers since you don't have much on the resume yet. |

Don't get cocky.
You are only 16 and the easiest thing to do would be to get a job in fast food or another restaurant. You have no work experience but you might be lucky enough to pull off another job depending where you live. |
