I am wondering what sole traders call themselves. Like for example if somebody asked what position you hold, would you say sole trader? Or Managing Director/manager etc? Also what would you put on paperwork - ie after name of company on headed paper, where you have your contact details, what would you put as your position? |

Name of Business (Company is not sole trader), then your name address tel no mob no email add.

Call yourself whatever it is you do. For example, graphic designer, dog psychiatrist, widget crafter, or whatever your business is. That way people actually know what you have to offer and you avoid the silliness of calling yourself the manager or director of yourself. |

That's a good question. I'm a self-employed tutor and don't know the difference between owner; manager; director; managing director; sole propeitor etc. I just put down what ever I feel in the mood with at the time! I'll be interested in the answers to your question - thanks! |

Technichally, It does not matter a sausage what your title is, and I am in favour of the calling yourself what you do.
When I started of in SE, I was a "Freelancer", and then became a Hotel Consultant, and I now share that with a seperate set of Cards as "Recruitment Consultant".
My next set, hopefully, will say Hotelier when I buy enough Hotels to earn that title, dreams are great.
If you are stuck, you could just leave it blank, or go for Owner.
It really matters very little as you are whatever you want/ need to be! |

Depends who is asking, usually manager does the trick but if I have to, then I am the Owner-Operator (or Lco for short), like I said, usually manager is my title. |

hi, i am a small business owner (sole trader) and tend to put owner/manager as my position - but it is something i have pondered over before.
putting personal tutor, accountant, marketing officer, personnel, financial director, admin officer, IT officer, web designer, telephonist, typist, tea maker and office cleaner would just be too long! |

well, if you were a sole trader then calling yourself managing director would be implying you are actually a limited company - which would be FRAUD, so I would avoid that one.
propioter sounds a bit pompus, owner a bit under stated.
personally i would just put my name and contact details, they can call me whatever they wish then. |
