Of course hard work, which it sounds like you have, also you need lots of money, because most business' that will provide enough money for you to live on will be very costly to start. A friend of mine who sold his grocery store chain 19 yrs ago for over 200 million said he knew he could make it if he didn't run out of money, he finally did make his first profit afetr 2 yrs. the key is simple believe in yourself. if you don't no one else will. also enjoy what you're doing. when people are good at something i notice no matter what it is, they usually like it. it's something that gives you satisfaction about being able to do something a little better than everyone else. if you can find what that is and find a way to market it you got it. i like when i make money really easy that excites me.

First get a mentor. As you have stated and failed 3 businesses, it looks like you might be doing the same thing over and over again that is causing the business to fail.
Remember that failure is an event, not a person. Also, view failure as a learning tool.

well i see risk taking is an obvious 'quality' of high profile entrepreneurs - but think how many risk takers will have failed in business and no-one knows about them!
i personally think the key is willingness to change - you need to be able to challenge your own ideas and opinions, recognise where you need improvement, admit when something isn't working, and be willing to change your service or product to match a changing market etc.
as long as you have determination i think anyone would make a good business person - they should stick to an area they know, have skills in or are interested in so that they will stay committed and motivated, they need self-discipline and self-motivation as they are their own boss.
other things like selling or negotiating skills, IT skills etc can all be learned through personal and professional development, there are lots of short courses/workshops and books in those areas which you can learn from.
if i were you i'd see your previous 'failed' attempts as trial runs to learn from.
do some more research into what is needed and how you could fulfil it - if you think you've found another opportunity then go for it! |

Part of your problem sounds as if you don't know what you are doing.
"Doing whatever" sounds like a recipe for disaster. You should only start a business in an industry you know well. Learning your mistakes on the job can be very expensive!
A lot of the time the competition that will cause you big problems is not visible to someone outside the industry!
A small company which is highly specialised does not need to advertise a lot (so you would not find them as an outsider) and if it remains small and efficient they can make more money prorater than a bigger dinosaur type of company.
As an example of a how a small specialist can really win just look at Ryanair compared to BA. |
