you have to consider the P's of marketing

price
promotion
and product
they all have to satisfy the needs of a specific market
also take into account threats that can affect the company and ways to solve those problems in case they come up
A key part of organisation is setting objectives
you can divide them into 3 groups short-term, medium-term and long-term objectives and strategies to meet those objectives
after all most companies fail because they don't have a clear idea of what they are after. |

The biggest reason most business fail is lack of necessary funding and or cash flow. The other is marketing and location. You need a good business plan thinking about where your income is going to come from almost on a daily basis for the first year. Its wonderful to have an Idea to open a store, run ads. Unless you have a clue what the demand for you business is your doomed. I knew a guy who spent a ton of money renting a spot, turning it into a nice looking breakfast/ lunch spot. Only to be located on the wrong side of a divided highway. During his breakfast /lunch time all the commuters were going the other way across the highway. Now if he had opened on the other side of the street ne might have made it. I have also seen way to many people spend thousands of dollars on fixing up a building, expensive signs etc. Only to find themself cash short to operate. To be totally safe and on good footing. Figure all your bills for 6 months including paying yourself and figure on zero income. Thats how much operating cash you will need. Remember pay yourself first but don't expect to be eating steak for a few years. Your not in business for yourself and not get paid as many people do. You can always get help from your local service core of retired executives. Also contact your local chamber of commerce because they know who does what in your city and where to get free help. |
