The slowest times are mid-morning or mid-afternoon Tuesday through Friday. Avoid going right at opening, at lunch or just before closing.
If you visit a large office, consider using the APC machine in the lobby. It's an automated postal machine that can do most everything a clerk can. Also consider using USPS.com, where you can print out postage, hold or forward your mail, request a carrier pickup or a redelivery---all for free.
Our goal is to have no customer wait more than 5 minutes in line. If you frequently have a wait over 5 minutes, please ask to see the window supervisor or postmaster. We like feedback-both positive and negative.

Sign up with stamps.com. They allow you to do all the stuff you would at the PO without driving there and wasting time. I really like the program. You can order priority mail items from the usps.com for free and order postage labels through the program. There is a free trial for the program and they give you some label sheets and free postage to try it.

Not during lunch time and not during the end of the day. Also stay away from Mondays. Best day would probably Wednesday. Since people wont be rushing there stuff out on Friday.

I go when it is raining. Not much queue.
Also Thursday early afternoon is usually good for some reason.

I have had the best success at about 10:00. Same goes for the DMV.
All of the people who decided to stop by on their way to work are gone already, and the lunch crowd hasn't started yet.
