I have run book stalls at church/school fetes before now and, believe me, I would accept any amount of money to get rid of the remaining books at the end of the fete. There is usually some sort of event like this going on every Saturday in any area. Look out in local newspapers for details. Go near the end and make an offer.
House clearance auctions are another source.
I wouldn't go to charity shops unless you are buying books which they have had for a long time and which haven't sold. These shops now charge a lot for their books, more than you would probably charge in your online shop. |

Many second hand bookstores will allow you to exchange your used books for others. |

Garage sales, flea markets as well as at the dump (believe it or not). Our local dump as a place to salvage items that shouldn't be in there such as books, furniture, appliances before it ends up in the dump (so it's not yucky). Also, watch for estate sales. |

You have received some good ideas but my tip is to get networking with librarians - schools, colleges and universities have regular clear outs and many have end of term student book sales too. Buying one at a time from Ebay can end up expensive. Go for the bulk purchases. get to know the librarians and call them regularly, once a month. After a few months, when they have books to get rid of, they will start calling you. |

I buy the majority of my books from charity shops, some books are ones still in the shops and you can get them for about a pound each - how cheap is that! |

I think the obvious choice would be boot sales. I don't go to them very often, but the last time that I went there were a couple of really good stalls and I picked up some really really cheap books that were in really good condition. One of the stalls was from an elderly home that had closed down and they were selling off there books from the library that they had. I picked 5 quite recent books from the stall, hardback and in great condition and I bartered her down to £6 for them all. Sharon Osbournes autobiography which was one of the books was in tesco for £12 or more I can't remember anyway I saved a fortune, if you go out looking there are loads of stalls like that! |
