It's not legal with out parental consent, and I'm not sure many places would really want a kid working there. If you can find an out of the way fast food place that desperately needs work and can't find it, or your parents have friends or family who manage some sort of store, you might be able to find a job. |

I think you can go to a restaurant and be a busser. All you do is clear and set tables. The waitresses also share their tips with you. And since you are not at the legal age to work the hours are really good to. |

At 13 you can't get much of a job because in places like Starbucks they won't employ anyone until they're 16 (even though the law allows you to work at 15 the complications for the employer make it too much of a fuss for them to bother considering that they can get plenty of 16 year olds)
However, don't lose hope. At 13 you can do some agricultural work, things like working at a riding stables is an option though the work is tough and the pay poor (i got £20 for a 8 to 5 Sunday job).
I think that you can get a paper round at 13, though it might be 14. Have a look in the local paper and make enquiries.
But I warn you, a job isn't all it appears at first. You have to give up your time on a consistant basis, so no going out to see your friends whenever you like. If the weather is bad its thoroughly miserable (especially with paper rounds) and its a lot of effort.
My best advice (from personal experience) would be to wait a couple of years until you are able to get a job doing something that you enjoy and that will be valuable to you.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Oh, and this is for in England. I don't know about elsewhere I'm afraid. |

Legally??? I don't know of any state that allows a 13 year old to hold a wage paying job. Sorry.
I could be wrong.
To a previous answerer way above me, Chick-fil-A does hire 14 year olds, BUT they set a limit how many they put on staff. Sometimes it's only 1 or 2. |

Where do you live?
You should check the child labor laws in your state. They vary state to state.
Until we know what state you live in, we can't do much other than suggest lemonade stands...but you're not 5 years old so I can't imagine you wanting to do that. lol

I would recommend that you find someone who sells Avon and become a helper. Once you turn 16 than you would get your own Avon rep under their Mark brand. Mark Representatives must be at least 16 years of age. - Representatives who are 16 or 17 years old must have parental consent to begin selling. You could also help out with Avon parties and fundraisers. If you want to email me and I will provide you with a website to help you get start with Avon.
Good luck. |

I grew up in a small town (where everybody knows everybody) and I had a job when I was 13 - it wasn't legal, but I worked at a family-owned ice cream shoppe, and they paid me 'under the table'. I think that would be your best shot - do your parents know anyone who runs their own business? Maybe one of your friend's parents? I think that you can't legally have a job until you're 14 in almost every state. You can legally be paid as a farm-hand, if you like hard work!? I think that you can deliver newspapers too.
Babysitting or other service-related jobs are most likely your best bet. Start up your own thing that revolves around something you like...you like to shop, so you should go to the local retired community and become a personal shopper. You can get paid to tutor if you're smart.
Best of luck to you! |

I worked at a Haunted House when I was 13. You made have heard of it, it was Called Rocky Point Haunted House. I was the youngest employee there, but they were tight about it. The only reason I got to work there was because my dad was the set designer there, but shop around and see what you can find. |

A 13 year old can't get a minimum wage job anywhere in the U.S because considered child labor. Your best bet is to get a job that pays under the table. Babysitting, Yard work in the summer, snow removal in the winter. That's about it. There is a law that prohibits anyone under 16 to work. |
