use past (or present) people that have used you for a sitter. use teachers, neighbors...people that know you, your personality and your sitting expertice the best.

Other people you babysat for & Family Friends, or Friends.
(also, call the people you are using and tell them or ask them if it's okay that you give out their number, it will also give them a heads up someone's going to call)
Also, use people who have known you for a long time. Make sure you tell the person interviewing you how you handel children, activities you play with them (most people don't like when you just plop the kids in front of the tv/computer). Tell them if you have a driver's license (in case of emergancy), special awards/certificates (CPR, First Aid, etc) and how long you've bene babysitting for, how many familes you sat for, how long you've known the other families you worked for.
Let them know you're responsable, it's important that they trust you! |

Detailed character referrences from 2 people of some importance in the community will never go astray. this should be from someone in authority like a church minister or policeman or business person
Where you baby sit only 1or 2 children at a time, you may opt for a significant amount more referrences to show how diverse your experience is, and how trusted you are.
Do not include referrences from family, as of course, their opinion will be biased.
However, if I was an employer I wouldnt take much notice of referrences and go more on the persons character, because I have never seen a bad referrence.
Always as permission from the people you want to use as a referrence and much later, have someone you know who is smart, to do a check on them. Ring up and pretend they're a prospective employer and find out what they are really going to say about you. If a referrence stabs you in the back, you will not get the job. |
