I sell Mary Kay. I started last July and still do it. I looked into Pampered chef, Avon and Arbonne and chose Mary Kay because it had the highest consistent discount and easiest business plan. I have two young children and my husband is in the military so I needed something that I wasn't required to do parties, made quick money and could work hard at or not do at all depending on other factors going on.
Mary Kay has been great for me. I became active right away and have always received a 50% discount. There is no lesser discount. It is 50% or nothing. The starter kit was very affordable and I got a lot of stuff in it that was actual retail size. Since I make a 50% profit on all sales, I do well. My largest monthly profit has been $1232 (sold $2464). My smallest was $375 (sold $750).
What I like best is that inventory is NOT required and there are no quotas. Also, everytime I move I can take my business with me. Meetings are not required, but do help.
The only word of warning I have: make sure you are compatible with your director/recruiter. Your director can make or break your business. I have heard horror stories about people having horrible experiences with Mary Kay, stuff gathering dust on their shelves, etc. but some of that is poor leadership from a director but most of it is because they didn't think carefully about their business and what the needs would be and got themselves talked into things they didn't need. If you are smart and do your research and have a business plan on paper, you can't go wrong.
My email is on my profile. I would love to share more info with you! |

I am a senior consultant for Purse Party. I absolutely love it and I'm still doing it and will still be doing it in 10 years. It's purses and jewelry and really sells itself. I get paid 30% commission the night of my party and an extra 10% in a commission check each month. I would love to chat with you about Purse Party! Let me know if you are interested.

I did Stampin' UP and loved it but packed it in when our third child arrived because my hands are full and I wasn't able to give it my all and it became too much. I loved the free stuff they gave me. It could be good money if I just focused on it but I also have a full time management job at a Univesity so something had to give. The nice thing about these types of business is the support and that the capital isn't huge. you can get your feet wet with little risk. Go for it.. you only live once and if you are passionate about it, people will follow your suit and buy it. I went into every party with the attitude of "I won't be upset if no one buys a thing... i do this because I love being creative and getting out and talking with other adults because I am on maternity leave right now." the stuff always sold!!!
Good luck! |

About 25 years ago, I sold Tupperware. I hated it. I don't like going out at night. I thought I solved that by setting up some "brunch" parties. Unfortunately, small children took over the scene. The mother's wouldn't make them behave. They were playing with my display. The final straw was when I found one of them chewing on one of the big forks that went in the salad bowl...I spent more money than made it. You have to buy the "newest" piece, to make your display look up to date. It was expensive back then, I know it's off the charts now! I've actually seen kiosks in the mall selling Tupperware. I have a neighbor who is a something like a district manager for Avon. She's been doing it for years. It's a huge responsibility. |

I am a District Manager with Arbonne International and absolutely love the products and business opportunity. I share premium products and an opportunity for others to live out their dreams.
Arbonne has over 350 consumable, proprietary products in 6 key consumer market including skin care, body care, weight loss, nutrition, aromatherapy, and cosmetics (giving you a nice residual check). People are really starting to take better care of themselves. They want to live longer, healthier lives so the health and wellness industry is a great place to be and the next trillion dollar industry.
All of their products are formulated in Switzerland and made in the US so they're unlike any others on the market. They're made with natural botanicals, pure, safe, beneficial, hypoallergenic, pH correct, dermatologist tested, and formulated without alcohol, wax, dyes, chemicals, fragrances, acetone, and mineral oil. The products are revolutionary and result oriented. People love them and Arbonne is booming with over 111% growth every year since 2002 with 164% growth in 2005 over 2004. We more then surpassed that half way through 2006.
Arbonne is stable with over 27 years experience and a leader is the industry, debt free with a low start up cost of $29, no inventory, no sales requirements, no territory to limit growth, free online ordering and toll free ordering with direct shipping to consumers, free online training, committed leadership, Mercedes Benz car program, and the most generous compensation plan in the industry. There are 4 levels of management with the option to will your business, direct deposit, and a Mercedes Benz car program with everyone having an equal opportunity to go all the way to the top. My sponsor makes well over $120K a month and began just over 2 years ago. Their average monthly commissions and overrides are avialable online at arbonne.com. As a consultant, you can either make 35% off of retail sales (at the time of the sale) or a percentage off of wholesale orders (percentage increases with different levels of management).
We build relationships, share premium proprietary products, and offer an opportunity for others to not only look and feel great about themselves, but also to change their lives. It's so much fun and rewarding. I wouldn't want to do anything else in th world! If you're interested in learning more, I'll be happy to help you. |

Hi Jersey Girl, I'm a Philly girl so to speak Chester County now.
I sell Mary Kay and I LOVE it. I was anti sales and even told my consultant i wasn't interested when she first brought it up. I have had a lot of home parties in the past and I always felt like they were pushing their business and carried a lot of stuff so I was never interested. What i found with Mary Kay is it is more about providing a service and building relationships. I have made some great Friends for both me and my children. I earn money while having fun and it is rewarding to see someone smile something about making some look good on the outside makes them feel better on the inside and that projects outward. I have never worked for a company I respect more then Mary Kay. I wish I had the opportunity to met her. Her are some thoughts on home based business that may help good luck with whatever you choose. I do a lot of networking so if I can be of any help weather it more info on My Mary Kay business or something else email me.
When considering taking on a home based business there are a number of things to consider.
Make sure the company you will be aligned with is well established and has gained a deal of integrity. There is about 100 new multilevel Franchises started each month in America. When building your own business you don't want it to close the doors after you have been building for a year or so.
Make sure the products are consumable. This ensures continuity ofpurchase.
Make sure the products are unique. Too much effort would be required in getting someone to try your widget if they were widely available at the local store.
Research the compensation plan. There are so many out there. You would want no limits placed on this. Be able to earn as much as you like, without restriction.
Make sure you are going to get the tools you require to be successful. You would like to be able to get great deal of support, particularly at the beginning.
Look at the company's statistics, like retention rate and average dollar spent. This will give you an idea about how long people are prepared to keep buying the product.
Does it have a strong corporate base?
What is its philosophy? Does it care about the environmental impact of its production and its products? Are its products tested on animals?
Has the company experienced consistent growth and what is its expected results for the future? |

I've sold a lot of things from Avon, to mary kay and another company inbetween that I probably shouldnt list, and i will say this, "get with a company that has products that you like so that when your customer data base comes down to you, you will purchase the stuff for you!!" if you dont like it why try and make someone else believe they will like it. I am currently a independent Mary Kay consultant, thats going pretty good for me I buy it and I sell it so im okay. No I dont have a car from mary kay YET, its in my future Im just working hard and its my part time job. To wrap it up what you put in is just about what you will get out. Work hard and be wise when getting into some of thes companies. |

Mary Kay. I love the skin care products as well as the cosmetics. Sales are a little slow, but only because I still have a full time job and haven't built up my clientele as well as I could. It is truly fulfilling to enrich women's lives and I would love to do it full time. Great incentives, rewards, lots of motivation from directors, low start-up cost. Great business! |
