If you live in the UK, the retailer you buy your new freezer from is responsible for recycling your old freezer.
This falls under the new Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations, which came into force on 1 July 2007.
Here's the info you need, quoted from the UK Environment Agency's public information leaflet:
"When you buy a new electrical product on or after 1 July 2007, you should ask the shop how they are going to take back your old one. They have to do this for free when you make a like-for-like purchase (for example take back your old toaster when you buy a new one), no matter where you bought the original product." |

Some companies do advertise that they will take and dispose of your old freezer, others say they will dispose of it for a charge.
If you are going to get rid of it yourself you could either phone your local council to come and get it (they may charge a small fee) or you could take it to the tip yourself. The tip will have a special place for fridges as they do with TVs. |

You are unless the store says they'll take your old one away like mattress ppl do. Put yours on Craig's List for scrap. If you put it in the trash, check your local laws first!! You may have to pay to have it taken away! |

Depends where you live - some local authorities will take freezers and fridges away for free to stop people from fly tipping. Even if you have to take it away yourself you can usually leave it at the council waste disposal centre free. |

You are. But some companies will take away your old one and dispose of it for a small charge when you buy a new one from them. Alternatively, phone yur local council and they will remove it for a fee. |

You are. There are some shops that will deliver your new freezer and take away the old one. I believe Curry's offer this service. Failing that your local council might collect it for a small charge. My Council in Tewkesbury collects for free. |

You are. Some companies may offer to remove an old one for you, but they don't have to. Disposing of refuse, even bulky white goods, is up to you. |

You are unless the store that you purchased it from is nice enough to remove if for you. I purchased from home depot and they removed mine for me. |

The owner of the old freezer is responsible unless they come to an agreement with the seller of the new freezer to collect the old one. |

You are of course. Some authority run recycling facilities where you can leave ir FOC, but you have to get it there. However, many sales outlets that deliver will take away the old unit although there may be a charge. |
