The truth is maybe it's time you worked with a professional on a business plan and a pricing policy. You can have your policy printed right on your invoices or work orders. Have them sign it before you start the job. Always-Always stick to it!. |

Put together a portfolio with photos of your fine work. Include any customer letters about what a great experience they had with the experience with you. Clean your truck, cut your nails, brush your teeth and make your self look professional. Learn how to make good estimates and be able to hold your ground. Be prepared to walk. Check in the paper to see if there is a SCORE program where retired business men help people like you with suggestions and advice. Call your state employment office. They may even have a program for you. Good luck! |

Your intentions are good, but the psychological effect of your good intentions is quite the opposite. Probably the problem is that you was on many different business and never in one of them for too long. I think that is a problem.
In order to make your market to recognize the quality of your work you need them to know you. You need to make them feel secure...
I'm the owner of a small company. After almost 4 years we are now able to cherge for our work like it should be! just one year ago we were charging less than the half on what we charge now!
Other important thing is that you need to know how your expenses are going and how to manage your income. Normally you will be tempted to drop your prices when you need money because you can think that is better at leat to receive something, get a customer and solve your cash problem! than nothing!
That could be ok but not for ever... Try to handle a cashflow and generate mechanisms that will help you to pass the cash problems easier. Give a check on how much money you received during th epast 12 months... and then you will know what is the minimum amount of money you would normally receive... based on that you could make a better budget.
