they are the experts b'coz they have the knowledge and experience in their field and its a very specialized field which not many will go to. you need to consult them and they will charge you a fee for their advice..so that's why consultants are the experts...

Most consultants have advanced academic degrees, several years of industry experience, and professional training, which allows them to justify calling themselves experts. As already mentioned by several respondents, why would anyone hire an amateur when an expert is needed?
