One of the biggest reasons is they have been taught their whole life that school is important so you can get a good 'job'. How many times do they hear that growing up? They don't hear about starting their own business, they are taught to avoid risks, 'don't color outside the lines' mentality is drummed into them from the first day of pre school. It's sad.
You would also be suprised at the amount of parents who would discourage starting their own business. They just want the kid to get a job and start paying their own way.
Our society is teaching kids to be consumers and worker bee's. They aren't being taught about starting their own business and financial planning. They aren't learning the skills and the strengths they need to draw from in order to venture out on their own.
They are often overburdened with student loan debt and some even have racked up credit card debt while in college. Starting their adult life with so much debt can be frightening.
Our oldest child is going to be going to college next year. He wants to be a physical therapist so he is going to take business and marketing classes as well as his classes for physical therapy. He wants to start his own practice. We are encouraging him every step of the way. He even has his internships set up for next summer.
Our second son who is in 8th grade wants to design video games someday but wants to start his own company eventually.
Our kids have that spirit because they were homeschooled during their elementary years. We taught them what they needed to know but we also encouraged them not to fear new things. Our youngest two kids are thinking about starting a dog walking business that also picks up people's backyards where their dogs have gone potty. Most kids wouldn't do that.
Our kids have helped their grandparents business. They have also seen their Uncle's very successful water softening business.
Our country needs to wake up and start teaching kids to control their own destiny financially instead of thinking in terms of just getting a job and surviving paycheck to paycheck. This is the big reason why the distance between the rich and the middle class is growing.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime! We feel as parents our number one job is to raise responsible adults, who contribute to their community and believe in themselves. |

Starting your own business is rarely covered in college courses. College trains you to join the workforce as an employee. |

u need experience b4 startin their own biz. if u started your own buisness right out of college, u probably would fail, bcuz of inexperience. the wrong thing is how ppl end up trapped in their job & dont eventually venture out & become an euntrepeneur! |

Lack of self confidence, lack of imagination...from kindergarten, Americans are trained to work for the government or large corporations. Those kids who have that special spark of ingenuity and creativity, usually get it knocked out of them as they become absorbed in video games, teen romances, tv, SATs, achievement tests, and so on.
Very few young people have parents and teachers who encourage them to think outside the box. |

First, Entrepreneurship is not being encourage in our school system anymore.
Second, parents failure to motivate their kids about business
Third, financial constraint
Fourth, young people are looking for fast buck.
And theres the other reasons..... |

T.W.O. ,
college only teach people to get jobs.
few people have the body parts to start a business. it is safer to get a job untill layoff time.
u'd be surprised the tpye of 'educated' people who come to us looking to start a business with no knowledge of what a biz is . |

Perhaps; they have accumulated a large amount of debt, they don't have real world experience or skills to use, they do not have any business contacts, they would like to bring in 'loads' of money to live life well, and maybe they don't want to deal with the trouble/hassle of trying to start a business when they have no skills or experience in running/starting a business after spending several years in college. |

Lack of experience, money, resources, credibility are just a few. Even with a well thought out & exicuted plan, chances are the buisness may fail in 3 years. Times are just different now I guess. Actually more colleges are offering instruction for starting a buisness. I actually find that instead of jumping into starting a buisness to instead get my feet wet working for someone already in the buisness. It will give you a "heads up" so to speak of what you may expect. |

Because it requires money that banks and stuff won't lend them as they have no income. |

Banks won't lend out capital to someone who has no track record with running a business, therefore, a college student wouldn't be a likely candidate, because a bank won't lend them the money. |
