Michael | Why do so many small businesses go bankrupt? |

combination of under funding, poor diversity and inferior management |

Most of the above anwers are correct. It's not necessarily that most small business go bankrupt, but the vast majority do go out of business within the first 3-5 years. This is due primarily to under capitalization. If you start a business on the up and up, you'll find it to be very expensive. Everyone (mostly government entities) has their hand out looking to collect a fee for this or that. Some business grow too quickly creating cash flow problems. This is a big problem for companies who extend credit or perform other than C.O.D. transactions. Some people just lazy and expected that being own boss meant less work. |

Lack of funding.
No business management/selling skills.
The best management can't do anything without money, and a large bank account can quickly be emptied by poor management.
People almost always underestimate the amount of money it REALLY takes to start a business and KEEP it running until it actually starts making money.
Even a very, very small business can dump 4-5 grand a month in operating expenses and not turn a profit for years. Keep in mind that you still have to pay yourself, and if you can't do it all (and you can't), you'll have to pay someone else as well. |

A lack of capital is the primary reason. |

It's not really true that SMALL businesses go bankrupt. But it is true that MOST start-ups go bankrupt. Start-ups go bankrupt no matter they start small and stay small or start big and get small, or any other way. Start-ups go bankrupt simply because they cannot compete. There are so many reasons for that. Any business needs hard work and patience, but inspiration and intelligence is also handy. |

Poor management, high level of competition, poor finances, etc. There are a plethora of possibilities that can lead to failure. |

Because people don't do enough initial research and planning... they jump in with both feet and soon find themselves in over their head... |
