Pay sucks, customers and co-workers, and supervisors are all rude, poor benefits, etc. You name it, retail has it. |

I hated working retail..I guess cause some people are just such *ssholes during the holidays too..I don't even like being around the people or the rush!! |

I kind of like it, except the whole pay thing. My only problem is customers who get mad at me for the store being out of stock of an item, or something like that that I have no control over. |

As Real As It Gets
|
Most people (customers) treat retail employees like they are less than human. The customers expect to be treated like royalty for spending five dollars or less, and act like complete pampered snobs when they don't get their way.
Working in retail sucks because you NEVER get paid for all the crap you have to tolerate. |

Corporate retail is pure pure pure greed that is my very very strong opinon, I hate working retail because the management at the top makes big bucks while using the employees like slaves. |

I hear you, for me, I am continually surprised at the rudeness of people. Simple manners seem to have been forgotten, and the closer to Christmas we get the worse it will be. Remember to keep smilin even if you dont feel like it |

I don't hate it but it's boring. Being a cashier was boring. So is telemarketing. My sales go up and down. I sit in a dirty, humid, sometimes cold, sometimes hot, poorly ventilated dark office by myself for four hours five nights a week. I am starting to really dislike it. The manager insists that I am emotionally resistant to success, though I've suffered from two bouts of the flu, one quite severe, over the last three weeks and it affects my sleeping patterns. I don't think it's me. I've tried every tactic. Nobody wants to buy. |

I used to work at a Flower Shop and hated dealing with the customers. They take forever to make up their minds and we would have so much work to do that I would feel like screaming "HURRY UP IT IS JUST A FLOWER ARRANGEMENT!" |

GoCrazy:
Like any other form of work as long as it is honorable, honest and you can earn a fair living why not? However, it usually has low wages, it can be difficult to deal with the public, and you might not have the best schedules. But, like anything else in life, you start from the bottom, get some education, some experience and move up from there.
Just be glad that you got a job, there are many people in the world, that would welcome the opportunity. They do want to work but there is not job for them.
Regards,
Cesar |

I hated the a**holes too...I donno, there's something about people that makes them mean during the holidays...and they think because you work at the store they're in, you're a slave. You should be yelled at, hit (yes I was), felt up (yes I was, twice) and you MUST clean up after all the pigs. (and people are such pigs these days....)
Thats why -I- don't work in retail anymore...
(I was so stressed -4- different Dr's made me quit.) I cried every night and my hair fell out.
(my hair grew back and I quit crying...) |

The hours suck. Retail is a terrible place to work if you want to have a family life. On the other hand, it's a great place to get experience dealing with people. If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere. Hang in there, put in some time, then start applying to customer service departments in offices around where you live. The pay is better, the hours are better, and you can get ahead. |

I hate it because people as a whole seem to think that if you work in retail that you must be short on I.Q. points. That you cannot possibly know what you are talking about. Also that they can treat you like crap and make themselves feel better.
Also when the company has clearly stated something and then to have people call in and not be able to understand clearly written rules and then once you point it out politely they react as though they either didn't hear you or they do not think the rules apply to them.
I had one guy yell and scream at me that he was a lawyer and he made over $180 an hour and could i imagine being him and then answering himself and saying of course you do not understand you are only a customer service rep. What an ***!
Or another German guy that referred to me as a subordinate.
I was happily waiting for someone to call me a minion LOL!
or the guy that insisted because his shipment was late that was an order for an ipod that even though i gave him the $50 dollar credit a heartfelt apology and paid for shipping that he still deserved an ipod video for his son as compensation.Come to find out his son was 3!!!! I wanted to ask what he would need an ipod video for? a chew toy?
People are completely unaware of the fact that while i have them on hold that i am talking to my supervisor who has been listening and we laugh about it.Then i get to listen in to the call while he tell the customer nicely that i had offered all i could.Quite vindicating.
I handle people on the phone thusly.I have a collage of things i want to purchase or have in my life.I keep it within visual range. So if i get a customer who is an *** i look at that as a reminder of what i hope to achieve. Also someone once said this... you cannot fight a pillow. If you are like June Cleaver on Valium and agree with and commiserate with and be nice to someone eventually they will stop yelling at you and will possibly switch to apologizing to you. |

Because think they own the whole place.I get very rare nice customers sometimes. But mostly customer think they are the ruler of the world.I don't like customers.

My hours in healthcare have been cut so I took a job in retail womens clothing. It sucks the big one so bad I can't take it. The pay blows - I'm so bored of it. |
